Ashley literally requires more attention because she's so much more incompetent. She can't even put dishes away without breaking them. She needs constant supervision. As a child/adolescent this might seem like playing favorites or loving someone more. It's not though. It's like the difference between a toddler and a middle schooler. Obviously the toddler requires more attention because they are not capable of taking care of themselves. Iris and Lily are far more capable and talented than Ashley. They might not be traditionally as "pretty ", but at least they are going to be able to take care of themselves. Ashley can't even write a letter on her own.
