Hitoshi never saw Mayumi as a stepping stone, not his skills, not his talents, never using him for money and ambitions. He could be a prisoner and Hitoshi would still go to him while willing to help him and wait for him if he's guilty. Tastumi on the hand, helped Mayumi not getting arrested but then blamed Mayumi, even tho most jobs Mayumi did were given by him. The difference between Tatsumi and Hitoshi is Tatsumi wants Mayumi for the thrill, and Hitoshi just want Mayumi.
Right and you could clearly see how unhappy Mayumi was with Tatsumi. He smiled once while with him and that was when he was hacking so it wasn't even Tatsumi he's nothing but smiles with Hitoshi Hitoshi makes him happy so he's willing to help him and get him out of things cause it's what he WANTS to do not something he feels like he has to do.
You're right, he wants to help Hitoshi and even then Hitoshi wanted to find alternative ways to get money without Mayumi doing the illegal stuff.
The one-sided convo Tatsumi had with Mayumi was really telling why Mayumi is so sick of him. Severed relationships with friends and family, contant chases, being made to believe he belonged nowhere and would never be accepted by anyone (but Tatsumi himself). Mayumi is right at home with cute and harmless Hitoshi.

Holy cheese and rice! That was one of the most squealing-worthy story I ever read! I didn't expect this much heart-clenching from the wholesome-Ness everything exudes. I swear every time Endou straightforwardly said his feelings and when Honda couldn't hide his reaction, my heart was on the brink of combusting and I kept chanting "pure babies! My pure babies! You're the purest."
On a side note, by following this comic for years, seeing a little development from them never fail to give me a feeling of joy. In a sense, it's like witnessing them grow up.
What I can conclude:
1 He Tian is prone to sulking
2 He Tian can never stay mad at Little Mo and will forgive Little Mo 2 secs after seeing him
3 Little Mo's waist pull in He Tian's hand like magnet
