I think the reason this character pisses so many people off isn’t (just) because he’s a piece of shit, but because of the way the author is framing him. This guy is toxic as fuuuuck (and knows it), but he hasn’t suffered any consequences for it. The way the story seems to be going is that there’s maybe? going to be a conflict that makes him realize he’s in love and... I don’t know about y’all, but that’s incredibly unsatisfying for me. Mostly because it implies that his abusive behavior comes from a place of affection. In my opinion, the only thing that he can do to redeem himself is to let Joonghwan die. I’m going to keep reading, but I’m preparing to be disappointed.
Henlo I am just here to say that a character being flawed is not the same as being compelling. The first couple is tragic because of circumstances that are out of their control keep them from being together (sort of). The second couple is miserable because one of them is an abuser who refuses to change. It’s not that they can’t be together, it’s that they shouldn’t.
Periodt. There’s a science to making a likable asshole kind of character and this just ain’t it.
He’s effectively cornered Honey into being with him.
It ain’t cute.
