Is the pet really gone gone??
Aww man that would make me so bummed.
I've reloaded save files for less and tossed hours of progress. (Like forgetting where I sat my dog in Minecraft, fallout, etc).

Also their character designs were so satisfying idk why. Their faces just looked more genuine than the generic manga-esque handsomeness.
Idk just a thought.
I feel like maybe readers weren't satisfied with the ending because of the constant anticipation of something awful happening but in the end, things got to a marginally 'doing okay, tentatively happy' place and with all the build up, that may have been a bit of a let down/felt like not much of a payoff.
I'm okay with it, since really that's pretty much how life goes. And I'm firmly rooted in the 'that could've gone much worse' faction.
It looks like the pet is back on the window sill in that last panel!!
If I'm seeing it wrong, I will simply pass away.
