Reading this series, the thing that i appreciate the most isn’t any couple dynamics but the friendship between Yohan and Yuri. They’re so different but at the same time so similar. Every time Yohan shows up in Form of Sympathy or when Yuri shows up in For Your Love, i feel so satisfied and wholesome. I don’t ship the two, i just really like their friendship. They might shit on each other but when it comes to important matters, they have each others’ backs. That’s so beautiful. Yuri was the frontline support for Yohan’s romance while Yohan has always been Yuri’s only confidante. The fact that they have such big roles in each others’ stories says a lot about how much they matter in each others’ lives. I would honestly enjoy a story of just Yuri and Yohan when they were young and their antics. They’ve known each other for so long, they’ve become a part of the other. I can feel so much of the care and love they have, platonically, that it makes me wish i could have someone like that in my life.
Personally the story was alright. It’s good but it’s definitely no masterpiece and not at the level of great. The plot was okay, it was too convenient at times. The pacing was good but the relationship development was wonky sometimes. I am especially skeptical of how fast the emperor fell. The characters were great though and the general is a favorite of mine. But the plot with the second guard was kind of weird and confusing so I couldn’t feel enough closure about him. The villain wasn’t anything special. I liked the empress plot twist though. Overall, it’s a good story but I’ve read better.
