It’s revealed he was already interested in Ines when she was younger (~16), but (due to very valid reasons) she refused to see him, and he tried to catch her attention by flirting with other women... Well, things just went downhill from there, and so we get to the way things were at the start of the story.
He repeatedly affirms he was in the wrong and Ines is too good for him, and doesn’t excuse his behavior. Also, he finds Ines attractive both dolled up and dressed like a nun! (๑•ㅂ•)و✧

It's good to know that he affirms he was in the wrong. he affirms his wife i hope, not to himself. self loathing won't do.

I hv the same reasons for dropping can't get the fact outta my mind he did went to other women maybe if the plot was like how other women were trying to get him and that causing rumour and he didn't put it off(like making it seem he had a scandal while in reality he didn't) I just can't.

Yeah, the author had such a poor writing in this. Poor him, he didn't even realise he liked her, he had to go out and fuck other women in the hopes lf gaining her attention, but of course, this is only subconsciously, and he only realized it after marriage. Then after seeing how beautiful she is, he is suddenly loyal and in love. Pff get out of here. The art is amazing, I give that.

I mean in that case, she chose him first- made them get engaged at such a young age only for her to ignore and neglect him. It’s very clear he was like a placeholder or a tool for her to use. It technically would make no sense for someone to insist on marrying you, only for them to immediately ghost you as soon as you’re together. It wasn’t just him that was the problem. She wished for it to happen and her actions helped.

Some people defend him and put all the blame on her like she was threaten him with a gun on his head making him sleep with all those women and that's not how I see it.

that is your opinion and we respect that, we have different views and i view carcel as a loyal husband and faithful one at that he might not be a perfect fiancee to ines at least as someone who read the entire novel, i think you will understand him more when this story progresses. Honestly they are just both broken characters just trying to figure out new emotions and trying out new things, though sometimes it comes out as bad we can't do anything about that we just have to understand that is the message of the author here. Its not because of her poor writing skills, it's just we lack the cognitive to think outside the box and not just state what is credible to our eyes.

dante basically was told to get married asap since hes getting old and that made him want to make ebony his asap too. ebony however isn’t ready for love yet and definitely not a relationship and was scared by the duke’s aggressiveness towards her since he’s usually quite nice & understanding.
