My best suggestion is isolating them, for example home schooling, challenging them intellectually, and traveling frequently, a nomad lifestyle. Word of advice. Unless you've had experience with the other sex or the same sex, DO NOT put a label on your sexuality. Look at what the protagonists had to deal with. But it was an inevitable pain because they know for a fact what their preferences are. Coming out can be one of the most painful and shameful experiences you will ever have. Unless you are 100% sure you are gay or that you intend to marry someone of the same sex (if you are bi, pan, etc.), do not jump the gun and tell people that aren't romantically involved with you. If you trust certain people, tell them how you feel, sure, but wait until you're older, please. My coming out experience was absolutely terrible. I'm bi and my parents found out from someone else... I'm the kid of an immigrant... I don't think their conservative view is wrong, they grew up with that but... Damn, there's nothing more painful than being doubted every day. I lied and to this day, I've convinced them I'm simply "confused".
