Wow, how could I have missed this manga for so many years? O.o... it was released in the late 90's when technically saavy fujoshi/fudanshi were downloading/sharing YAOI from IRC channels...how nostalgic!

Anyways, I loved, loved this manga, everything about it! The sexual tension between the two mc's was smoking hot, even thouhg it wasn't sexually graphic; the friendships, the angst, the slow pacing, everything, everything. I just wish the closure had been a little bit more defined, and more on Hikone and Ryouta's close friendship, which showed a lot of promise. Loved it, loved it, loved it (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ

Ok, first "Suki Na Hito Hodo", then "Tomarigi", now this! I swear, Harada must be getting laid day and night, and all this recent fluff is the result of exploding oxytocin levels! There's no other logical explanation! ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

I don’t recommend this for the romanticist purists that despise cheating because it’ll give you heartburn; trust me, Kou will drive you over the edge (as it did me); but despite the blows to my romanticist sensibilities, I found the story engaging.

Ao wasn’t just the typical pathetic cuckold; his cuckoldry was the result of his guilt for stealing Mikuni’s and Kou’s happiness, which is no small thing. Even though it tore him apart whenever Kou cheated on him, he allowed it as a sort of penance for lying and separating Kou and Mikuni.

I had more difficulty with Kou because of his promiscuity; however, in the spirit of psychoanalysis, it seems that his cheating was the result of his unconscious feelings for Mikuni; even though he didn't remember, he was still in love with Mikuni and was unconsciously searching for him in all those men. On the other hand, even if Kou was unconsciously searching for his forgotten love, cheating is still a matter of character, and making the same mistake over and over, knowing how much he was hurting Ao, makes him an egoistical bastard in my book.

Mikuni was kind of the innocent bystander that got hit twice on the same spot. Poor bastard!

The reaction of the readers seems to be simultaneously divided and united. Most seem to detest Kou, but half sympathizes with Ao and the other with Mikuni. My interpretation of the ending and feelings of the characters is that Kou was indeed in love with Mikuni, but he grew to love Ao and at the end was as equally in love with him. I think that Mikuni was Kou’s first love, but based on the background history shown, Kou’s connection with Ao was longer and very likely stronger, and if Ao would’ve had the balls to confess when they were in high school, he would have been Kou’s first love. Their history and bond were probably even stronger than Kou’s romantic feelings for Mikuni, but there’s no way to prove that. At the end, Kou loved both Ao and Mikuni equally, but he chose the person that loved him the most, that needed him the most, the one that could only be happy with him and no one else. A reference to the conversation Ao had with the girl he met at the Omiami, where she tells him that she needs a person that loves her unconditionally. And that’s what Kou meant when he told Mikuni that he (Mikuni) would be ok without Kou (while Ao wouldn’t). Kou chose the person that had proven his unconditional love with tears, pain, and sacrifice.

Some readers speculate that Kou would always be a cheater, but at the end of the story that is put to rest. Once Kou regained his memories of Mikuni, he no longer “unconsciously” seeks for him, so there would be no more cheating with men that “looked” like him. That is alluded to when Kou punched the guy that picked him up at the bar; and once he reconciled with his feelings and chose Ao, there wouldn’t be cheating not even with the real thing, Mikuni. Now, is this a happy ending? I don’t think so, not for any of them. Mikuni lost Kou for the second time; by choosing one, Kou lost the other, and he would always be in love with Mikuni as much as he was with Ao; and Ao had to live with the knowledge that Kou loved Mikuni. And there is the valid question of Kou changing so drastically. Can someone that acted so egotistically change? Not too sure about that, but I’ll give Kou the benefit of the doubt. I guess this is not a happy ending, but a bittersweet one, with both realized gains and losses.

Believe me whether you do or not, I actually find this manga to be refreshingly real. I agree with all of your points, and definitely appreciate the way you broke it down so clearly. As far as what some people think about love, though? I'm probably a senpai myself at this point, all things considered. And I've actually BEEN in those shoes, where it was one or the other. It really is possible for love to evolve, and for those romantic feelings to fade into just caring about what the other person is up to these days, or if they're doing well. It's possible, and I'm living proof. So, to say that it's not a happy end is almost as if to say that it's impossible to love again after emotional loss. While that can be true in some cases where the situation is right, it's also very possible that Mikuni can love again.

Now, that said, about the change. I attribute a lot of the change that has happened in myself to who I love and am with. In fact, both of the people I have loved so dearly have changed me in various ways. I can attest that it is also quite possible, and indeed PROBABLE (considering Kou's desire to keep Ao and the feelings of guilt that he began to exhibit from the first day he was to work with Mikuni on the set) for Kou to have gradually made that drastic change due to love, willpower, and whatever else goes into making changes in one's personality.

tl;dr: Good review, I agree, but Mikuni maybe can love again and love changes people.

You explained the reasons why I Like AoxKou perfectly. Mikuni being is first love doesn't mean that he can love Ao

I loved it! Chapters 2 and 3 simultaneously destroyed and reconstructed my heart . I loved the uke was assertive enough to put the seme in his place. Also, the seme's inability to read emotions and/or manage social situations appropriately reminded me of SDC (Social Pragmatic Communication Disorder) and even to some extent Asperger's Syndrome. I didn't think their bodies were weird at all. This is definitely a winner for me. Cute, just too freaking cute! ヾ(☆▽☆)
