I can't help but think of 23:45 (shounen ai) or Pinocchio (bg romance) when reading this one, although I truely don't know if it has a similar outcome.
(For those who are interested, 23:45 has a sequel, 23:45 re: (possibly yaoi), while Pinocchio is the sequel to One Winter.
.. what is it with those Chinese series, where it seems everybody is cruel and mean and their actions goes way beyond bullying, except MC and maybe a single good hearted servant?

While this probably wasn't the best plan, I think many have tried to strut around with a fake lover under the arm at a bar/party/whatever, just to get rid of some dude, who didn't get the point. The stupidity here is the duke who's so obsessed over Ripley possibly ditching him (again) - and what to learn from this? Just don't let your love interest do this 'job' for your friend.
