Lmao I like the side story, not for the couple but for mr Lee (I think the was his name). I like that the point wasn't their romance but him taking his life back and no matter what happens it'll be on his terms. Like I don’t like his dickhead ex husband but with that ending I feel confident that if he sees the slightest red flag pop up he'll leave.
I LOVE his dickhead ex husband's love confession cuz it was so pathetic, it took mr Lee leaving for him to say it and also made mr Lee realise that the love he wanted, he unknowingly already had and was what was causing him the same misery as when he didn’t have it at all.

He said no to his ex but asked him if he wanted to see the baby so it's a little open ended in a sense. Basically saying that what he'll prioritise are his and his baby's life, he mentioned still having romantic feelings for his ex but his ex sucks ass so he said no to staying together.
So if the ex changes for the better they might get back together but because the story isn’t about their romance it ended in a "maybe" cuz ultimately it doesn’t matter.

That was ass, i can like freaky psycho shit but it's a go big or go home kind of shit. You can't just have a oh he's the reason Daniel and his dad died but also back out a little by being like "oh he wanted Daniel captured alive so technically not thatttt much to blame" and "oh he's a psycho but look at them being funny and cute together" like bitch it just makes it makes the hard hitting part of the plot feel weird and meaningless. Plus mc ain't that much of a freak so it just makes him feel shallow like he doesn’t care that much about all the shit that just happened.
