i think it's basically the general/majority preference by the readers especially that most of the old BL mangas has been centered around that idea for so long
there has been more and more works about an uke that is bigger/more masculine/more dependable/dominant than the seme in the recent years though
what i mean is the old works basically shaped the idea that characters that are on the softer side look good as or is instantly a bottom which is why they'd see him a potential uke and would wish for a switch

1) there's no romance
2) the authors are aware that lee jihye is a child and shouldn't be sexualized unlike some fantasy/action manhwa that treat high school girls like free waifu material
3) there's much MUCH more to the story than mc killing monsters and everyone making suprised pikachu faces
4) friendship between same and opposite sex
5) the side characters have a purpose other than simping for the mc *cough* solo leveling *cough*
6) the art is amazing
7) mc's backstory has an effect on all of his actions and isn't cast aside after 5-10 chapters
8) *spoiler* there's an actual female main character and she does things
9) kim dokja is the mc but isn't immensely stronger than the other characters and uses his intelligence and knowledge to pass the scenarios
10) the family fluff
11) yoo sangah's character development (and everyone elses) but i'm especially glad she isn't used as fanservice material *spoiler* "i can kill them all if i want, therefore i can save them all if i want"

why is every character so dumb and unlikable i- at the start a tiny brained sociopath rapes this one girl in the middle of a goddamn death game and just when i feel bad for her she turns out to be a fucking yandere and goes around murdering anyone who comes near her crush. then there's this girl with the only sympathetic backstory who is determined to survive and all but she somehow seems to enjoy getting abused and has so many overly sexualized scenes that i'm pretty sure someone out there is jerking off to this. the guy who beat her seemed rational and interesting enough at the start but guess what he's annoying as fuck and has literally zero likable traits or at least anything deep or unpredictable about his character. oh there's also a delusional self pitying pedo and a serial killer loli. i'm not even gonna mention the supposed mc cause pretty sure y'all get it. one would think they're made to be unlikable so their deaths would be satisfying but this was at most as satisfying as seeing a mob villain die in a hella boring power fantasy
