I love the universe, but the dynamic in my opinion is really traumatized x traumatized, which I like it, it's close enough of hurt/comfort. the age difference was tolerable for me because the esper was a teenager when he met the guide, so you can put it in the category of falling in love with an older-brother-figured. I just don't like it when it's a father-figured (personal taste).
I often wanted to get angry at the guide too, especially because of the thing where he never let the esper's leg heal, but holy shit, every time those trauma flashbacks came back, I was like okay okay, this universe was extremely cruel to you two and soojung grew really sick in the head. In the end, I think they found a balance in their relationship because of the trauma they both went through (since they understood each other), and it's still not healthy, but at least it was a happy enough ending.
