Unfortunately, if someone isn't used to seeing signs of abuse or dealt with it themselves, then it's unlikely they'll see it. They're not used to such circumstances so they're only feeling their emotions at that time. Trust me, I had a hard time trying to get through that portion of this chapter, but I had to think about how my own S.O didn't even know the signs in the beginning and now they're able to recognize it a bit. I also just really hope that if/when Riftan finds out about her past he ends up going berserk on her father.
