Wei Wu Xian was killed by the other four powerful clans years ago but then he was revived by Mo Xuan Yu who was a relative of the Lan Ling Jing Shi Clan. Mo Xuan Yu was kicked out of the clan because he didn't have the aptitude for it and he was gay I think. When he returned to live with the Mo family he was not welcomed by them, especially his stepmother. His life was terrible and he wanted to get revenge on the Mo family but he knew that he did not have the strength or power to do so. So, he used the sacrificial ritual and offered his life for Wei Wu Xian to take his place. Wei Wu Xian was known to be a very evil person and was the one who came up with the ritual to summon someone evil and powerful by offering the person's own life. I think that is all in the first chapter. Sry for my bad English.
