Yep... the progression could've used some better pacing. His change of heart was so sudden it gave me whiplash. Perhaps some juxtaposition of the mother's suicide with the mc's own apparent death, in the thoughts of the seme, would have helped to make that moment where he finally "realizes his mistakes" a lot more believable.
