I think its because there is a power dynamic at play here. He may be rosas mothers bf but its obvious from the way the mother treats him that he is below her and at her disposal. Without her liking him he wouldn't be getting access to luxuries, comfort and status. All he has to do is keep the mothers favor. There is also the fact that he worked in a place where he had to use charms and maybe even his body for guests.
