Iām not 100% sure yet, but Iām pretty sure the author is trying to portray Sohanās misplaced feelings of obligations towards his parents. Itās as he said in this chapter, in his mind he feels like he has to be greatful because theyāre the reason heās born. Itās why he doesnāt get angry when his mom left him with his piece of shit dad or angry at his dads attitude. Because he has this misplaced sense of guilt.
What Iām thinking and hoping for in the next chapters is that heās gonna snap out of that somehow and realize he doesnāt have to feel obligated and guilty for that because itās not his fault.
