Is this "showing up to your relative's house unannounced" something people usually do?? Where i'm from this is considered pretty rude. There's at least a phone call before.. At least that's how it is in my family.( that might be because I've threatened to hit them with a frying pan if they do not call first though..)

To each its own i guess.. But for me there is a difference between being close and being inconsiderate and a bother. Maybe it s a cultural thing or maybe it just depends on the family. But my grandmother with who we are really close, well she visit us everyday, she even has the keys to our house and we also have the keys to her house,and thats not a huge bother bc if we arent home she will already know it and since we are close we consider her house as ours and our house as hers
İts the same with my aunt but my aunts are married and have children so we dont go over as much because they are stressed(like basically one of them is in ingenior college and the other is a honor student the number 1 of his school trying to make it to the top 500 just bc of his ego despite my aunt not even telling him to study)

Same with my bfs parents. I guess it just depends on the family :)). But if I think abt it, my mom and I used to surprise my great grandmother with visits all the time. But that was mostly bcs if she'd known we were coming she would ve spend the entire day in the kitchen cooking for us and baking cookies... don t get me wrong, her cooking was incredible but the woman was 80 yrs old...
