I really like this story. I am enjoying it a lot. I am not arguing it's literary or moral merits and I was put off by the lack of consent. But I really enjoy men in uniforms, and one sided devotion, and really social and full of authority MLs. I also like a MC with self esteem issues who tries to hard and is standoffish to protect themselves. I can relate. So..... checking all the kink boxes effectively turning thecritical part of the brain off. Not to say it is a well written world or relationship or anything, more like a messed up fantasy, but I like to read trash honestly I hate Charles Dickens and many types of good literature. I love "notice me senpai!" stories with an unholy love! Also I love royalty/social class dynamics done certain ways. Though I often can't stand Royalty/stableboy or Royalty/maid that power gap is too big.
Uke is not trying to fix the relationship just because he feels guilty. He needs to decide if he really wants the bear or not. If he was able to say he was committed it wouldn't have gone that way, and if he can't commit, things like this will keep happening. Other problems and insecurities will keep arising if they aren't both serious.

Is it Hayden that is mumbling about a timer as he walks away or is it Brett mumbling while looking at Hayden? The bubbles have no arrows and it changes interpretation quite a bit.
If it was Brett doing the mumbling it implies that Brett was thinking of his arrangement with Hayden as a temporary thing all along. Like with football he was indulging himself with his desires before settling down and doing what his family expects of him. He could view his relationship with Hayden the same way. I think that fits the pause when Hayden offers to drag him to the gym and how much he laughed at using the safe word "honey". It would set the two up for more debate about the nature and value of relationships going forward.
But no one else seemed to interpret it that way. If Hayden was the one mumbling that leaves other possibilities. It's tempting to think that Brett has deeper feelings for Hayden than he's shown - because he pursued Hayden and because he was open to a real date. Also because he looks happy when Hayden gets closer to him. And because it would be awesome. But that's far from proven in the story so far, I think.
Also, supporting the second theory, Brett seemed to hint at having long-term plans for Hayden.
That was definitely Hayden saying that

Drives me crazy. It's not possible that I could have hurt the other person right? I'm the victim here, since I 'm the one in one sided love nothing cruel I ever do could possibly be count and I never have to take any responsibility for my actions right?
Worried about this whole "psychopath" thing too. Like it could just be the MC getting into a relationship with someone who would never be able to fulfill their emotional needs. But it also could be the MC basically holding their relationship hostage to "teach" the ML to be more "normal". Which that's just wrong, you can't force a neurodivergent person to be neurotypical, you will only get masking back.
Ahhh, sensitive topics like this are harder to get right.
