Izaki competed with hakamada mistooking his feeling for him as a challenge, to surpass him, to reach the same place as hakamada.
Hakamada does whatever he could do to get close to izaki, as a genius he exactly know what he feels and would like to stand by izaki side, feeling inferior as he didnt took great effort to make it to the top as izaki does.
Hakamada has been writing for 8 years, because of what izaki said but actually never tried to get close to izaki unless he equal izaki's effort. It took reaching a reunion after they talked again, but in that entire time, they didnt took each other off their mind. Ahh so refreshing~
I liked how izaki didnt quit his job after their recoincilation tho maybe in the future, hakamada would convince him.
