I think they put out a precaution to catch him if he's still alive cz it's been a while since they've send him there and he's supposed to be dead/devoured right after, so any sightings of him alive would've meant that the sacrifice is trying to leave and/or has failed thus no more use of him and they need to send in a replacement fast
