I think the sort of country they’re representing in the manga could be literally any country between the connecting countries between Asia and Africa. Some of those counties are genuinely problematic and while are a bit of stereotype, come from a very real ideology some of those countries hold.

I think you're dismissing valid criticism of a manga you and I like for reasons that are not criticized here, because it's difficult to read something critically and still like the story.
You say I'm projecting, what am I projecting then? Racism? Because that's the only thing that would make sense with my comment, but then it's you calling me racist, because I didn't like racist stereotypes in a manga.
You can't honestly make the argument that both western and eastern civilization are stereotyped, so it's fine. Yes, they're both historically inaccurate, but one is pretty dresses and noble knights, and the other is evil faceless dark people coming to kidnap our saviors to take over the world. It's dishonest to pretend that these depictions have even remotely the same amount of respect.
"Arab" does do it the justice, because this manga isn't nuanced in it's depictions of other cultures. It isn't trying to depict a specific country, it's just put stereotypically Arab clothes on characters and called it a day.

Medieval knights, with their pillaging and rape. The rights of women in medieval Europe. Monarchy is also pretty problematic, I'd say. But it's weird how the story doesn't reduce these cultures to that! It's almost as if it didn't care about genuine criticism of the countries it depicts,it just wanted to make a good pretty fantasy country and a visually different evil fantasy country.
Which is what I have a problem with. I don't think the author is this terrible racist that has it out for Arabs, I think they wanted to do a medieval fantasy story and picked a vague European country for it, as most authors do, and then out of ignorance just picked something that didn't look like Europe for the evil country, as lot's of authors do. Which is still racist!
You can enjoy the story, but at least be a bit critical of what you are reading. It's not like I've never enjoyed a romance, that had moments that made me raise my eyebrow, but you can't just take them as they are.
Also about "that being an ideology that some countries hold" the only ideology depicted by that culture is that they're better than others and deserve to take over the world which...yeah, some governments (not countries) do hold, but guess what, Europe is pretty famous for that! If you look Colonization up in the dictionary, our lady Europe will be right there.
The fact of the matter is, that there's no complex depiction of an evil government, it's just faceless brown people with evil smirks, that want to take over the world. The fact that you think it's an accurate depiction of a "problematic country" or just on par with how stereotypically the European country, is a bit silly to me.

I love this manga but I feel you. I think in general when it comes to historical fantasy, whether written in the West or East, the vast majority of content is Eurocentric. It's often about knights, European nobility, debutantes, tea parties, the socialite world, etc. Whenever it's not about that, it's just another Murim/Wuxia story. So when they want to introduce "exotic" characters then end up bringing in Middle Eastern-based cultures. Most author's don't do any research into these cultures before writing about them (not even when it comes to the European setting ones tbh with all the "dukes" that don't fkn know how to properly hold a wine glass). Authors just write based on their perception of those cultures. So it often ends up being negative cause of all of the bad stereotypes associated with the Middle East in real life thanks to Hollywood. This general topic is so complex that I'm sure there's academic journals about it.

1st world countries like america and the uk for example deal with a very self-focused type of racism (inside our country) that honestly doesn’t happen the same way that it does in other countries that are less progressive, welcoming, and understanding as we are.
Japan is one of those countries. It has an extremely low, and I mean extremely low immigration rate compared to other countries at the same progression level.
All world news is also extremely filtered there, there’s a reason why they have a romanticized and bastardized version of what other countries are like culurally and visually and its not a simple issue that can be explained away by simply saying the artist isn’t sensitive to other cultures, theyre racist, or don’t care to research.
Your points aren’t necessarily wrong but you’re also backing the wrong horse here. This isn’t an issue of one person or a couple people, it’s the entire country that is culturally built this way.
To that I say it’s a valid criticism sure, Japan is extremely conservative relatively sheltered, and not well versed in world events for the most part, causing potentially stigmatizing and harmful stereotypes in their media.
But thats just it, japan IS a conservative sheltered country that doesn’t dwell in foreign affairs if it doesn’t have to, for better or for worse. They apply their beauty standards, their cultures, their ideals and ideas to other cultures because they don’t know any better and probably won’t know any better. Complain about it but it really doesn’t change the fact. I think it’s alright to take everything you read with a grain of salt, and move on. But let’s talk about Saudi Arabia for a moment shall we? Saudi Arabia is a moderate danger for traveling right now because they recently bombed Yemen and are stopping their imports. Not great, they are on verge of war with multiple countries, and is considered a “country of particular concern” since 2004. They still restrict freedom of religion as a Muslim country and actively will persecute those who are not aligned with their beliefs.
No shade to these countries, I’m just stating facts here. I think there’s a reason for concern and while harsh stereotypes do nothing to solve the issue, it also isn’t a lie that these countries are as I said “problematic” with the fact that they are extremely unsafe, unstable, and unreasonable countries in our current climate.

If a country's culture was to spit on brown people, would it only be worth critiquing, after they start harming them? No! Because the idea that "brown people are lesser" was there at the start! On a final note: I can critique literally everything I want. I can critique bad fonts, I can critique ugly houses, I can critique the weather and I can critique bad people. If someone loves those things and is hurt by hearing genuine good faith critique of it, well that's their problem. I think enjoyment comes from knowing and understanding and it's not my job to please people who's enjoyment comes from blind acceptance. I won't lie to you and say that I sincerely love this manga and that my critique of it only deepens my love for it. I thought it was rather average, that the characters were rather boring and the plot a bit nonsensical. But I did think about it. I thought sincerely about the story, it's metaphors, ideas and characters. Would it have been less wasteful for you, if it was another dopamine making romance story, that I wouldn't remember I'm a week, because all I focused on was how hot the guy was? I thought the comments were crazy, but after chapter 51, I think we can pretty conclusively say that the story has been now split into two timelines:
So-Myeong timeline and Som/Mother timeline
I kept trying to look for slightest physical differences like height, eyes, or uniforms, but there aren't such things. So I'll present the actual differences here:
Characters in So-Myeong timeline:
-So-myeong, Hyojin (her black haired friend), Siyun, red head fuckboy
Characters in Som/mother timeline
- Som, Sol, Killing-stalking-wannabe barista
Changes in So-Myeong and Som:
-So-Myeong never cared about smoking, but Som seems to hate it and judge people on it all the time
-Som is in general more "upper class" with her taste, she won't sit on old chairs and is grosses out by greasy food
-So-Myeong pushes her friends away to protect them, Som is extremely possessive
-Som complains about her daily life being tedious and repetitive, So-Myeong is tired of being on edge all the time. I think So-Myeong would enjoy being a boring adult very much
-Som is very chill about her mom "My mom would understand if my bag got wet in this weather" "It's raining, should I call my mom?" "I put the umbrella in the hall, but my mom must've put it in my room""I can't go out, my mom made dinner, haha okay you're funny I'll have dinner with you", So-Myeong is scared of getting murdered
-The way Som meets her lunch mates is almost identical to the way So-Myeong met her now murdered friend, so I don't think she'd be eager to repeat that
-Som lies, she lies willingly and often. We can compare the situation where a bully was being falsely accused. Som cried and said she doesn't remember, So-Myeong stayed silent. So-Myeong lies also, but mainly about her mother or to her mother.
-In what universe would So-Myeong keep an unlocked box with all things important to her in her room, and out a photo of a "low quality" friend in there, when she knows her mother would immediately find it?
-So-Myeong wants to avoid confrontation, to the point of concern of her friends. Som just met this girl and ended her bloodline, and taunted her on top of it.
-"I hope Sol and I create more memories during these fun times!" So-Myeong isn't having fun times I think haha
-The chapter 51 line pretty much confirms it "I want to do something about my hairline, get rid of my bangs and cut my hair into a bob" So-Myeong DOES NOT want to look like her mom lol
-So-Myeong's brother and Son's brother are not the same characters, their hair is drawn differently. I'd understand So-Myeong maybe wanting to lie about her dead brother now, but the flashback with her studying with him never happened. Her brother was a little dumb and she loved him for it.
-I don't think So-Myeong would trust the police to handle parental abuse of her friend
-Som is just a lot warmer than So-Myeong has the energy to pretend to be.
-Som doesn't have So-Myeong's disorder I think?So-Myeong looses her sense of consequences completely, Som just gets meaner, but she still thinks things through. Baiting a girl you don't like to say something stupid and then tricking the teacher into letting you off isn't that and it doesn't serve So-Myeong's plans
Smaller changes:
- So-Myeong's mother says she caught who was smoking outside their house and So-Myeong isn't concerned at all. Why would she? It's some random college student and not Sol, who she doesn't even know.
- At So-Myeong's school, nearly every main character has some gossip floating around "he's a real piece of shit!" "He's so handsome!" "She's so kind!" I think there'd be some rumors about Sol, a girl who smokes and struggles with studying and has an older boyfriend on top of that.

There's tons of things I could write about this, as I think it's at least in the top five Isekai/romance mangas I've ever read, but I'll keep it short: What I love about these characters especially is how real they feel.
Of course, they aren't living the everyday life, and are pretty exaggerated, but none of the men feel like "male leads" or just something hot to keep the reader interested. They all have their own life, their feelings for the empress have developed in their own way. I'm always down for a secretive FL and I love her so much that this would turn into an essay if I went on but know that she's the best. Lot of times MLs feel like they're just there to fulfill an archetype, but none of these characters fit neatly into those boxes the genre set out for them. Isaac isn't a devout believer, he just want to help people. Nau isn't the cool secret assassin, he's friends with the kids, the maids and never randomly violent. Kersent's obsession is played ass a joke at the start, but it's what pushes the entire narrative.
THANK YOUUUUU for not including any weird pseudo incest!!! I want to read about a complicated sibling relationship without the brother acting like a jealous boyfriend to all the other leads. He genuinely acts like a kid, but he's also complex beyond that! I love how he genuinely gets along and cares about the other male characters l.
All the characters are interconnected, they all have an interesting relationship that is worth exploring. They aren't just set pieces for the empress. I love that the "repeating narrative" isn't treated as a bothersome neighbor, but as a real oppressive force, constantly forming the story.
Isaac is fucking top tier. 10000000/10. The artist is really good with facial expressions and pacing, so at some moments you can just feel the love gush from him, and see what he sees in the empress too. He's so caring, yet the dialogue is never cringy. They bicker, but it never feels like a bad comedy. They flirt and it always feels real! He respects the empress so much, and I didn't see it coming at all! He's introduced as the third lead, right after "beloved ex husband that betrayed me" and "assassin now working as my personal servant", I thought he had no chance and he's wiping the damn floor with them! He's just,, so real!!

i think the author is a more social or humanitarian person that she can write characters that feel more real.
well it's not that i stereotypes other authors who wrote basic mainstream characters, but as i write as hobby and i can see the influence of my thoughts on my writing.

Really fun and thrilling! The translation is a bit rough, but you can't even be mad at that, because they provide those little summaries and graphs of relationships.
The main character Andrim is obviously the most fun part of the story. He's smart and manipulative, and all his plans are well thought out. Only three people alive know about all of his crimes: Himself, Priest Malaki and you, the reader. The fact is, there was no misunderstanding, Andrim was a horrible person who bought his wife, neglected his children, stole away money from the kingdom and was willing to betray the crown at any moment. But no one but the three of you know!
I really like Malaki, I thought he was just going to be convenient side character, but he's great. I love that Andrim can openly be an evil bitch around him and that he's equally as greedy and manipulate as him.
I do wish that they pushed the morals a bit further (and no I'm not talking about the probably incoming step sibling relationship lol). Andrim was reincarnated into an Otome game yes? Then I wish we could've seen Juliette being a bit evil (though tbh I love her as she is now to) and especially see Marie and Nasha be good. Heroines in these games are cartionishly self-sacrificial and kind, and I think it'd be an interesting story to put these sorts of characters into an evil plan. After all, if you're fighting an otome game, your biggest enemy should be the heroine right?
The love interest is a bit boring, but I don't mind that, the more average classic hero Jorga is, the more room there is for Andrim to shine.

Btw, just because the author says it isn't yaoi, it doesn't mean that they don't get together. This isn't me spoiling anything or saying that the author is lying, but just that both can be true.
Almost every action manga has a love interest, yet it never gets labeled as romance. Nobody would call Boku no hero a romance manga, even though it's clearly there and the same applies here. It's a supernatural mystery drama, that has romance in it. It's focus is clearly on that.
Even if the title yaoi/shounen ai/Yuri/shoujo ai fits the story, I'd totally get why an author would be hesitant to choose it. If you say that it's that, you'll scare away readers who don't just want to read romance, but you'll also attract readers who don't care about the story and just want to see people kissing.
If they don't end up together idrc, as they're still clearly very much gay (who platonically offers his friend to suck on their chest, when an arm is enough). It might be queer baiting, but there's so much bait that this queer has already been fully fed so I'm fine. If they do end up together, great! It'd be genuinely awesome to see someone put their foot down about a story not being a romance just because it has gay relationships in it.

It's nice that the bastard finally gets caught, but...
I wonder is the symmetrical symbolism in this chapter is intended?
We start off with Mincheol remembering a night when Na Hae-soo was freezing, and he was able to give her warmth, but chose not to, out of resentment.
Then, we see Beom Tae-ha buying excessive amounts of heating pads and I thought: "What a clever use of metaphors! He's going to give them to her, because she's surely cold on her job! One could give warmth freely and chooses not to, and the other has to buy it, but has excess of it!"
But then, he doesn't give them to her! He uses them on himself and then seeks her out. And obviously, there's still the chance that no one of this is intended, but, after seeing that my final interpretation of the metaphor is:
Mincheol could give her warmth, but no longer wants to put in the effort, as he doesn't love Na Hae-soo anymore. And Beom Tae-ha can only give her warmth by lying to her.
