When it's good, it's good, but that's really rare. I think abo universe (esp in BLs) existed so authors can force more heteronormative bullshit on gay couples... mpreg, the dynamic between alpha and omega, the pheromone and heat, the animalistic behavior... it's all just a recipe for toxic relationship.
