I took it to be more that she's letting her hurt about being "broken" show a little. She's been masking it away to not concern her father but here she let the mask down a little bit because he was so cranky/jealous. That she'd would've loved to use that gift to become stronger herself but instead has to give it away to protect her future and that right now she's still "broken" and needing protection.
