The original plan for the ending (back in its early stages years ago) was going to end in tragedy with EVERYONE dying. Be glad that's not what we got.

Maybe that’s what Eren saw in the future and he set out to change it. If that’s the case....then didn’t he succeed? He did say on that day, Bertholt wasn’t supposed to die. Perhaps that alternative future was what was meant to happen, and he saw the path to change it. I guess, in the end, Eren won.
Huh, that's a very interesting take. Like taking the original tragic ending and literally changing it both in universe and out.
