This is how you write a proper toxic manga. You don’t romanticize rape, prostitution, or pedophilia. None of the characters are saints. All of them are both victims of a toxic environment and of their parental figures (or the lack thereof) from childhood to adulthood, as well as victims of their own choices. But they weren’t beyond redemption.

I’m glad they got a happy ending. They were able to change. Chihiro was finally able to stand on his own two feet (no longer dependent on sex partners), get a stable job, and return to his passion, photography. Hao Ran paid for what he did, not just for stabbing Maya, but I consider it also as a punishment for his work scouting people to become escorts. They both earned their happy ending.

Even Maya got a kind of happy ending. Death was better for him. I feel bad for him too, especially when Kaji said he had a suicide note to his mom that's barely readable, because he told Hao Ran he got his high school diploma in prison when they reunited. He was doomed from the start and some people irl are like this.

The world didn’t suddenly become sunshines and rainbows in the end. Prostitution and that underage bdsm brothel club still exist. Matsuki-san is still probably still preying on kids, although I hope he stopped (he did help Hao Ran and Chihiro a lot). Despite that, our two MCs, along with Kaji (who regretted having a hand at pushing Hao Ran in the wrong direction), are doing okay.

All of them had bad childhoods. Sure, we make our own choices as adults, but much of who we are and how we make decisions depends on whether our childhood was nurturing or traumatic. And life is not easy.

I hope we get more well-written, complex stories like this. I also wish we could get some extras showing the two of them living their happy new beginning.

We need more stories like this that explores RL relationship issues (feeling inferior to your partner). I remember 2 other manga with a similar theme, but they all have the same problem=lack of depth in the romance and character development.

I get why some readers are frustrated with Misaki, but he feels very realistic. He could have handled things better as an adult (unlike when they were still students) but it’s human to repeat mistakes and struggle with insecurity.

Some comments said they relate to him, with one mentioning they’re from animation school too. I relate to feeling burned out, stepping away from your profession, and getting a simpler job, with people being disappointed at you for "wasting" your degree.

On the other hand, Kaname seems like an ideal partner, devoted and forgiving. He loved Misaki for so long, which is rare these days when many people cheat or give up easily.

I just wish both characters had a bit more personality and depth.

Still, it’s a good manga with a strong premise. Better than many BL stories that romanticize rape or adult–minor (or barely legal) relationships. I just wish it has more chapters to develop more depth and more romance.

The brother has the best character design. He's very handsome. I hope he gets a partner asap, like the doctor classmate or a new character. I hate love triangle, but it's in the tags. T_T

It's kind of unfair to blame just the MC. The ML basically slept with him and suddenly dumped him twice, without any explanation. They are both at fault and just need to communicate.

I hate replacement/substitute-for-ex plots. T_T Someone please spoil the ending so I can decide whether to drop it or not. Both bottoms deserve loyal partners and a happy life.

The final chapter said “To be continued" so I was waiting for side stories, but it’s been a year. T_T

This is so good and deserves a higher rating! Why did I only read this now?! My only complaint is that it’s too short! We need to see their happily ever after! I checked the last chapter (raws), and they kissed so much their lips got swollen. The artist posted an art on twitter of the two MCs in bed!

The last side story was posted in August 2025, but the artist tweeted that she isn’t planning any additional side stories for now. However, she also said that she's thinking of drawing a short one later "if she gets inspired". So please purchase it if you can, and show support to the artist on twitter so she’ll write more side stories! I’m begging!

I love the representation of people (like the MC) in their 40s who have never been in a relationship. It’s more common than people think, especially in our country where the eldest child is expected to shoulder the responsibility of lifting the family out of poverty. They spend most of their youth working, caring for sick or troubled family members, and fixing what’s broken at home, so romance naturally takes a backseat. Although this tends to happen more to women or eldest daughters.

I also agree with the comment below. I prefer calling it middle-aged man yaoi, and we definitely need more of it!

I kinda miss the old art style. The current one’s nice, but the shoulders look too small and round, and Takano’s chin is shaved so much he looks so young. I think the anime (Proposal Hen) had the perfect balance of both the old and new art styles.

Haru better beg Reo for forgiveness. If my friend suddenly told me we should stop hanging out because "being with me is exhausting" and didn’t want to explain further, refused to stream with me but streamed with someone else instead, and kept ignoring me when I try to mend our friendship, I’d be pissed.

I skimmed the library chapter in the novel, and it seems different. They talked about how the MC is the kid from the past and confirmed their feelings for each other. They didn’t have sex there, they did it after leaving the library. I think the mangaka changed things, but I'm not certain because I didn't read the whole novel.

The art is okay, but the colors are a bit harsh on the eyes. The psychological aspect is good, but for someone who has been drugged and kidnapped, I think it would fit the MC’s character more if he were more cautious and on guard. He was easily drugged by that pedo emcee and he easily trusted the CEO. Anyone receiving lavish gifts like that would think "Surely this isn’t for free.” Thankfully, the CEO seems to be a good person.

The ML gave mixed signals, yes, but it seems he just cared for this hardworking kid with whom he felt some affinity (since he used to watch his videos before). Still, there must also be some attraction there. After all, he was watching his videos. His character feels a bit bland, though. He’s portrayed as logical, controlling, and maybe lonely (with the cat as his pet) and he always shows up like a knight in shining armor, but overall, his personality feels flat. The CEO seems even more charming and a good fit for the MC. And I'm saying this as someone who wants MC to end up with the ML.

The MC is constantly put in situations where he needs saving. It's a little too much. It’s a writing issue that could be improved.

The blanket kiss scene should be addressed. It’s not okay to do that, even if the blanket prevents lip contact. There was no consent. It's quite scary if that happens to you irl when you're sleeping.

I think the high rating comes from how well the story portrays PTSD and the feeling of having a crush and being rejected. But for me, that rating feels a bit too generous when you look at the story as a whole. Still, I hope it improves as it goes on.
