If you want an answer, its because when they were attacked by the mana-eater: they lost 1 or 2 of their horses. That's why Mira and Gno rode on a horse alone to get some help from the village while the other members were injured. I'm guessing they were waiting for more horses or a carriage while it was her birthday.
