It's not a requirement to read poyun first you can read each separately, but breaking through the clouds is kind of a sequel to poyun (the characters are different tho) so do whatever you're comfortable with!
As for the accuracy, novels tend to be more detailed but it's not boring I promise! Especially if crime/investigation genre is your cup of tea.
Also the manhua team is doing a good job by keeping the story as close to the novel as possible, they didn't miss much!
