They spent SO, SO LONG together!! And it’s only now, NOW! That he realizes!! This is why you can’t have spouse privileges without an actual marriage! I’m glad he knows to be regretful but I also hope he feels like an idiot. I blame her a little too for giving so much of herself without ever getting anything back.
He didn’t have to give her anything because she loved him so hard and honestly. He wasn’t grateful for what he had. She is even still his friend! More distant to heal but still! Just argh!!!

Same and because of the characters here’s a couple other ways this could go imma rant too.
ML little brother he clearly likes FL in all that time he could have showed that he’s a better contender than his older brother and showed her the treatment and respect she deserves but I think he’s more of the here’s my chance and fail kind of character and oh my brother is your real love ughhh.
She could have went to business instead of pursue love or better yet even her own brother could have said something what you mean you didn’t know over these 13 years your sister was in love with that man your own parents knew how did you not know but I’ll give you a pass for now.
Now yes you’re right she was giving him so much with nothing in return that is a problem but also since she was 8 when she first started liking him it should have been the parents duty to talk to her and show her like hey we don’t want you to get taken advantage of so try this instead especially since she was the daughter they cherished oh so much.
Berne is in no way perfect but it could have been an amazing story about overcoming past heart breaks and learning to love again in their own way and heal.
All in all idc I don’t want ML to be the ML. Girly deserves someone who’s willing to let her heart mend but show that someone is there for her to mend her broken heart and truly care for her. She also needs self improvement towards her self worth and learn to love herself and find more confidence. Not be with the man that broke her heart and only just now realized shoot I do love her only cause she’s not giving me what she always gives me and now giving it to someone else no screw off you had your chance no more.
