Chase's parents (Ashley Miller and Connor Niles) did try to protect by allowing him to go to a different path, being an actor, while the rest of the siblings (including the omega) became Lawyers like Ashley did, so they won't have to interact as much. Ashley knew he was different but since he had 100 percent chance of being an extreme like the rest of them, he didn't know how to show his care (he had damaged due to neglecting himself for Connor) so, being an actor when he was young was a way.
Grayson suffered the most of the abuse Ashley did to him. (locked him up in a dark room for days without food or water, as punishment) Grayson is heavily misunderstood, trust me, just read his story cause everything makes sense when you read it.
I think the ending for the author and cliff was alright, but why is that girl with the short hair so obsessed to see them suffer? As if she doesn't want to see herself with a new life but rather stay there to see them, people she hated, suffer? I think it's a better choice to be able to live her life a new since she's already punished them

You must have noticed how the difference of each "Edith's" has acted, most cause their "greed" and that basically sums up that she's probably one of those people that rather want to enjoy the suffering of others and use the excuse that she was a victim, just the author(on the novel) did, basically the author is getting a taste back of what the other Edith's experienced, it's just the shorthair girl was pushing it more due to her greed ╮(￣▽￣)╭
