
Ian is incapable of self reflection that doesn't revolve around him being the victim or martyr in some way.
It's hard to root for a guy who literally didn't visit the woman he apparently loves in prison and has made everything -- including her suffering -- about him and his needs. And now the first thing he wants is for MADELYN to reassure HIM.

That expression at the end was so similar to Brian. They have the same soul, just born and raised in vastly different experiences.
