Do people honestly like characters like that? Creepy, manipulative snakes.....why though? just why?

i wouldn't personally say i "like" them as i like the "good" characters - toward the latter i usually feel sympathetic and i kind of root for them but when it comes to the manipulative characters i've always found them somehow interesting, of course if they're written well and at least a little realistically. i don't feel particularly sympathetic for them but i still want them to be in the story to see how the things they're doing will affect other characters. i am just genuinely curious when i see a character that uses manipulation to get what they want instead of behaving in more morally acceptable way to achieve the desirable thing, and when the manipulative person uses that ability not to harm innocents and, well, manipulate people for fun and just for the sake of manipulating, then i may end up even liking them. of course it's not the case for the nurse, he is a deceitful person and wants to harm innocent people for his own amusement. but despite the morality of character's reasons for manipulation, i'm still curious about the reasons themselves - why they're doing it? did something happen during their childhood that they are the way they are now? why deceiving and manipulating people are so much of entertainment to them? and bunch of other questions like that. and if the story can answer to them in a believable and logical way, then i find such a character very interesting and well written.
tl;dr i just think that having a manipulative character in the story gives the plot potential to be more interesting and complex. the more complex the story and the characters are, the better. and i just like psychological shit, so that should give you an idea.

Of course execusion is important and who knows, maybe his character and backstory will make him interesting and complex. But that was not really my question. Just off of what we've seen now (sexual assault of a child and he sees nothing wrong with it), him as a person is someone I would stay far far away from and cannot fathom anyone truely liking this sort of character.

Intrigue doesn't mean like as in accepting morally, it makes ppl think about a lot of things (morality, physical attraction or whatever), or maybe like it as a fictional character, or even hate it. I also happen to like a lot of nuts on the head characters especially in dark ish manga (and also a lot of wholesome good boye characters). yeah let's see next chapters, first impression he's a crazy jackass imo, but let's see.
Mildy irritated how there's still misunderstandings...:/ when canaria called out to him behind the tree that was the perfect opportunity to clear things up
And youd thinkkk that by now he would know her well enough to know that she'snot the type to do that:/
Lol, like if she was cheating why would she call out to you??
