I have to ask the author what the point of showing his face looking sad. I can only assume they put that in to humanize him and make us go "aww he feels bad," ugh I just hate when they try to force redemption arcs down my throat
I love a good redemption arc personally, but some actions (i.e. Rape) are just not redeemable in my mind, except for in extremely specific circumstances (that even then are really more technicality based than actual rape based). It's more “does that really constitute as rape” and not so much “well it's ok because”. For example: yeah, it's rape but the mc is into that, he said so in the past, so although he's saying “no”, he's thinking “keep going”. I still have issues with that because in my mind no means stop. Immediately. But I'm not someone with that kind of kink and if the mc doesn't consider it rape, should I? (Still yes imo, but I'm hoping you see what I mean.) My issue stems at the junction pertaining to abuse/kink. If mc doesn't consider it rape, but everyone around him does, then that mean it's abuse and mc is only ok with it because they don't realize their being abused and it's all part of the manipulation? Have they been previously manipulated and therefore think they like someone because they've been programmed to think they like it so it was easy to be abused; and now in this new relationship are ok with being raped because they were so thoroughly abused in the past they took on their diminution as a personality and their abuse became a kink? In most cases we can't possibly know the answer to these questions because we're shown a tiny portion of the bigger picture.
All this said, in this particular situation, he said no. He even seemed to realize his “liking” of anything was physiological and afterwards lashed out. Which we'll yeah. I just don't understand the rapist. What the fuck was he expecting!?!?
Oh and my last paragraph of my other comment said “you don't get to be safe...” when it was supposed to say “you don't get to be sad”. So yes.
I'm just so angry. I also feel like no matter where this goes, the rapist is just a poorly written character.

I was enjoying this one too. It would have been SO easy to just say:

I haven't read Smyrma and Capri, but I would rec other mangas by the same author. Mania, Blood Link and Taming the Tiger.
My favorite of theirs is “Tale of the Yellow Dragon.” I cried so hard reading that, it was SO good! I only just finished Smyrna and Capri and that's why I'm recommending it so hard. I also don't remember if there was any dub-non con in Yellow Dragon so I need to revisit it before I feel comfortable putting it on any of my lists. I read all of Blood Link and it's insanely adorable. They're pretty good at the whole communication and wholesome relationships things.
I'm in the middle of a few of “Brothers Without A Tomorrow” stories. They're top tier in my opinion!
Yeah the other person is absolutely right. Honestly you can't go wrong with “Brothers Without A Tomorrow” stories. “Tale of the Yellow Dragon” is one of my all time favorite stories, including all the novels I've read, and at the spread I read, trust me, that's a LOT. lol.
I also remembered that the story 2020 is extremely compelling. It's only just started so if give it some time, but the characters only really don't communicate when they're purposely hiding stuff because they're not yet ready to be that open to the other about themselves. That said, when it comes to miscommunications, they both handle them quite well.
