the first chapters are indeed in the present,after Jian Yi came back,cuz he disapeared for more than 2 years,so the current chapters are from the past before his disappearance
The first chapters are in their high school days. These are in their middle school days.
You'll notice that Xixi lives alone and Jian comes in his high school uniform. Also xixi asks him about the time he got kidnapped in the beginning and he tells him that he was taken to an island in middle school, something to do with his dad. It all adds up later and there are many things you'll notice if you focus on every word. Oh and I've read it so many times and focused on each frame that's why I noticed the lady (≧∀≦)
