And she also wants to make sure Kai isn't getting mislead by Edith? So Alicia and Ares are pretending to court so that they can get engaged and...what? why? Its funny none the less and I love the the character art when someone is pissed off lmao
She is thinking that if she and Ares are in good terms then he can help her gain more political power. as a result she can help Kai become a better ruler
so why are they trying to get engaged? Like right now they’re trying to make their later engagement seem authentic to Kai.. is it because Alicia knows Ares wants her and is trying to please him so he’ll be on Kai’s side?
for her, it is only to gain power. Ares is the only aristocrat she knows plus he is hella powerful. So right now the only thing matter to her is the gain power and educate Kai. Kai may be a huge fanboy of Ares but he is not an idiot. He'll know right away if Ares and Alicia suddenly get engaged and will make a huge fuss. So that's why they are doing this in front of him.

I think they're popular in part because they're bad but also because they have some air of "everyone's dream" to be swept off their feet by some soul mate that will support you and all your needs. But if you read the wikipedia page for Harlequin Publishing, you'll see that they were also, actually, really out of touch with their reader base even in their hey day, and then failed to adapt in time and lost popularity to a lot of other companies. So like, yeah a lot of these stories are unbelievable and the characters are recycled, garbage and boring: I'm just saying like,,, OBVIOUSLY thats true, people even thought that when this company was successful lmao.
I'm just glad someone adapted these into manga because now I can enjoy the mangaka's beautiful art and read through these stories way faster than the novellas haha

The tipping analogy is not that off. All the authors who work directly for/with Lzhin get a guaranteed income and those who do well get more. The main difference here is that not tipping doesn't mean you stole the food (the tipping system in the US still sucks though) and authors could lose their job (as in not getting new contracts) if people don't buy their work.
However, not every publisher offers a guaranteed income.

This one is the strongest. FL and the antagonist are the two main leads, even if one is the antagonist. The ML is super passive and blind. Regardless of if his issues are valid or not, he has obviously not overcome them, and he is therefore weak. He is also not developing as a character as his opinion of Rose-bitch seems to not change. This is a good story even if one character sucks.
