Nonetheless, an observation I've been making is that back then, I used to think possessive, all word and no action MLs like this guy, who were HANDSOME, were endearing because when push came to shove, they'd show they're true feelings but looking at it now, honestly there is no hope. Japan has this weird 'fetishization' (dare I call it at that) of extremely good looking men unable to do the bare minimum portrayed as this philanthropic manwhore who ends up with a push-over girl who'll allow a breach of her boundaries and consent because she IS a pushover and we're supposed to root for em even when the ML is shit and the girl is left in a compromise that leaves her in a most disadvantageous state because the smut quality is good and its romantic yadayada. And let's not forget, she either has to be this motherly, carer figure who (in most cases) must be a virgin who'll easily sway in the man's grasp because come what may 'love wins all.'
Honestly, I forgot the point of what I was trying to lead to from the long-ass paragraph above so I'll just put this out there: as much as this is a work of fiction and readers must be responsible with how we perceive such things, at the end of the day, it still exhibits dangerous portrayals of relationships and to (impressionable) men and women out there, I hope you're not like either the ML, the FL or even that possible pushy and uncomfortable 2nd ML (officeworker guy). I'm on chapter 21 and honestly, I feel like although the story is still lacking in holding the readers to really stick with it, it has potential. However, I really don't like the sniping of this webtoon just because a lot of people are waiting for it. A lot of stories have readers waiting on its updates, what makes this any different? Like, it's cool and all if you can scanlate it fast + with high quality and give justice to the whole presentation of the webtoon. Grammar and font alone are a part of the package that entices the readers to read and what scan groups or other experienced solo scanlators have to offer. As someone who's helped in some scanlations before and seen how they work and plans to make the translation look legitimate, this just makes me feel bad.The butchering of transitions and names is also insane; how did Athanasia become Athanas and now the name Lucarian (Rian) just became Lucalene with a nickname Ryan? Make it make sense.
I'm not mad at the person just that if you're going to take over, at least check the previous chapters so there's familiarity and a proper transition of sorts. Also, making it a little doable to the eyes and having better quality for the readers should be a priority. It's also my mistake that I phrased it as 'give us fucking great quality or dont scanlate' which, yes, I do agree, I came off aggressive at that and although I could've better phrased that, I still stand by the spirit of those words. Not like, sending death threats or attacking them in their dms which I think is overkill. I don't think anyone deserves that when they're giving us free translations at the cost of their own time and effort, with their own money involved sometimes, especially at the digital age that we are in now when uploads are quicker and easier to access than a few years ago.
I just want to flesh out properly however since I don't think you guys picked on what I really was focusing on (which is also my bad), but I was rather more 'hurt' at the sniping the previous solo uploader did from the scan group since I used to scanlate myself in a few groups. And although I no longer scanlate, in the groups I've been in, we've always prioritised not just giving out a translation but also a quality that will please the readers because we put our works to high standards and it's just part of our 'free service'. I wasn't of course, as good as I'd like to believe I was when checking my old works but a lot of the groups I was in did decent scanlations and it's a force of habit to hold everything with the thought of prioritising the readers' ability to read the work properly without getting disoriented/shabby or it being 'decent' in my standards. I understand that we all have different perspectives on the matter and that's cool (1/2)
And, to specificy to miss/mister Siaa's firs point, no, I wasn't bitching about the scanlator doing the good lord's work. Honestly, that's the point: it's FREE and I have no qualms about it. I'm thankful for their efforts. I, however, chose to move away from the story because its free and I can hold it to the standard I wished to hold, shitty translation or not (partly the reason but not fully). We also have to give ourselves the freedom to choose what works we want to continue reading and for me, this wasn't it. So, I left. Of course, mainly 90% of the reason I'm bitching is because of the sniping. With my previous experience, IT WAS PURELY ON A PERSONAL/EMOTIONAL LEVEL of feeling bad that a scan group got sniped.
