I don't understand how the current king was a slave yet didn't abolish laws that stop slaves from having books or just abolish it all in all maybe he's afraid of the power they hold cuz he was like that so he knows any other slave who gets the right resources can take over from him all in all comes down to fear
I guess his kingdom relies/accomodates the needs of the nobles, even his comrade is a noble mage (Evan's dad) and I bet he is not even a goody goody hero like people say he is. More like the manupulative type of hero.
Heck, even the king punish a boy to work as a mining slave which according to the mining guard is as bad as a death sentence.
Well he worked his ass off to get to that position considering he was a slave.. it have took a long time to gain their trust so if he was to change their system altogether, he would be trown out pretty fast. he has got no choice to do it gradually and it is not because that you are in an authority position that you can change something in a day either.. so it makes sense that slavery is still going on.
The noble mage hero (Evan's father) is probably as strong as the king. Thus he must collaborate with nobles.
