Damn the way Taegun went and dirtied our MCs idol by exposing his corruption. That would break me. I don't want to see MC suffer anymore but at the same time I want him to show Taegun that he will prevail no matter what shit is thrown his way. I see so many people saying that this is bad writing but so far the only flaw I see is the cops choosing a high profile officer for an undercover case. Everything else is just MC doing his best to cope in a situation he can't win.
He can't quit the case because his dad is in jail and the cop in charge of his case is under Taegun's thumb.
How was he to prevent Taegun from coming back early? The bugging device was identical to his own, so there was no way for him to know he'd been bugged as well if they switched devices and kept the total amount of devices the same.
He opted to break Seohun's 1 ankle rather than cut off both feet (which seohun wouldve surely died from bc of blood loss or infection). This was done to prevent the underlings from gangraping Seohun, which Taegun only ordered them to do because MC didn't wanna cut off his feet.

Also this is (at least so far but I'm willing to bet) not a BL. It's a yaoi yes, but not BL. If we knew that in the end MC would fall for Taegun then yeah this would be a hella shit story, but I have a feeling this will take a Killing Stalking route, meant to explore a sense of self (mc's statement that he can never be dirtied by Taegun bc there are no dirty victims) rather than emotional manipulation like there was in KS.

IRL i am not a fan of cops either, but I think the author was just trying to juxtapose the MC and ML and their positions in society. This cop identity is what MC clings to to maintain his sense of self while wading through all this shit, i dont think this is a pro cop story but instead an instance of symbolism being misread as pro cop. Clearly the system is flawed in this manhwa's world too, or else the mc wouldn't be in this situation because the corrupt system let his dad basically be taken hostage.

This story actually talks in depth about some real issues and brings up a question for me as well. Idk why but the critical analysis part of my brain has been awakened.
My question: who defines something as being rape? Don't get me wrong, I definitely would call what Seo did as rape because he didn't provide any opportunity for Hatogaya to say no, but Hatogaya seems not to really consider it rape? If we considered Hatogaya a victim of toxic relationship or manipulation (or whatever, idk) would that be considered removing his agency when deciding his own status as a victim or not? Tbh I don't think there's a real answer here, but I do wish the characters discussed it with each other more explicitly rather than us just know Seo sees what he did as rape and Hatogaya seeing what happened as consensual (even though I would argue it wasn't consensual).

I really liked how this explored the biracial experience of people in Japan though. My friend once talked about how she'd get bullied before suddenly everyone reached the age of fetishizing biracialness in Japan, so I think exploring that from a model's perspective was especially relevant. Seeing someone that society says they value so much for their beauty value himself so little because of his youth (even sleeping with people he didn't care about or for) was so sad. And then the way that he was basically told "you might get a job if you sleep with me but probs not if you don't" and then turned into the bad guy "playboy" was I think super telling about society. Someone sleeping around isn't always because they're a sex addict or player, sometimes it's indicative of something deeper. Seo's self-esteem issues caused by the treatment of biraciality went so deep as to even affect how he viewed his relationship with Hato, saying he didn't want to "dirty him." I actually understood this not as a "my love for him is impure and I have dirty thoughts" but as a "I am impure (mixed) and a monster, (sleeping around because of his self esteem), I don't want that to rub off."

Honestly Seo's complexity was so well done and I loved the way it just thoroughly explored this aspect of his identity. I think this story would have held up just fine without the rape bit, but I still really like the character complexity plot and themes
