I think his mother was poor just like sooyoung, his father either fell in love with her or was pressured to marry someone and has a child so they got married , either way he started obsessing over her after marriage , isolating her and not keeping his promises so the mom’s mental health slowly started deteriorating(not sure if she was a little off from the beginning or was actually a happy woman at first), but the father who might be a psychopath couldn’t understand his wife distress and mental illness and isolated her even more , Jihwan seemed like a sweet child desperately in need of some parental affection but the constant fights, his father’s stoic personality and his anguished mom slowly effected him and witnessing his mom’s suicide was the final blow!
