If they do not hear you out, try to find a mini job of sorts so you can afford a phone and later maybe more. Hindu, but I guess we have the same issues like discrimination and what not when it comes to homosexuality. Don't let it bother you that your way of believing isn't the same as those of that old dudes :D I like my religion and believe in it more or less but not everything and certainly not the way some extremists want it.
