Some peeps are pissed bout how she still looks the same. But I'm annoyed at the fact that yall keep forgetting she has some face-changing arts. Also, just think bout it. She was gone for three yrs not long after coming under the emperor, and then when she returns, she was sent off to do work. They don't really spend much time in each other's presence, and what they do understand from each other is just through their interactions and conversations. It's the first time that he's seen her original appearance. It's not like he can grasp her personality right off the bat from their short interactions and immediately make the connection (besides, she's not even acting like how she is as a male.)
Yeon Lok Heun's male appearance looks exactly the same as three yrs prior to us. Her female appearance has some slight changes because it's already been three yrs. Even if she didnt change her appearance much aside from looking as she was before she fell into the hole, it's still reasonable that the emperor doesnt recognize her. One is a male kid while the other is an older female woman. Would you still say they're the same person??? Maybe think they're related or something. But we know that she's using her face-changing arts, so it's therefore harder to make a connection.
I've seen other stories use magic or something to change the character's appearance but the character would still look the same to us, and I dont see anyone complaining bout them??? I've also seen other stories that try and use the cross-dressing plot device but not execute it all too well and so the character still looked like a girl but everyone else in the story was completely confused by her gender. At least, in this story, Yeon Lok Heun actually does seem like a guy, and when she's in her female appearance, actually does look like a girl. And she has legitimate ways to look more like a man.
Her not telling the emperor that she's a woman is entirely ok too. Maybe it's a stupid decision sure and just a plot device. But it's wats driving the story, and also what's keeping the story from ending a lot faster. The same goes for their quickly developing relationship. Maybe it's a plot device or maybe the author made it that way so that some people won't complain about this being a slow-burn story because they're impatient for some romantic development.
Anyways, I'm a sucker for cross-dressing stories with strong female leads. Just be glad she's aware of her feelings and actions, and appreciate the fact that at least she's not like those weak FL who are actually extremely dense and actually make truly stupid decisions. And just be glad that so far, the emperor isn't an overbearing asshole either.

First of all, there was none of this Jennette-Claud interaction nonsense. From start till end, the only person that Claud held dear to him was Athy. When Athy went missing, he desperately searched for her. When he finally managed to "catch her", Claud really put in effort to try and maintain/re-establish the loving father-daughter relationship with Athy. It was very endearing to see his efforts and the scenes between the two. Also, when Lucas came back, he managed to cure Claud and restore his memories by sticking a branch from the Old Magic Tree into Claud (sounds ridiculous, but it's true). Once Claud regained his memories, he remembered how he tried to kill Athy and he said to her, "You will always be my one and only daughter." Not the exact words, but something along those lines to tell Athy verbally, for the first time, that he sincerely loved her. Athy in the novel remained as someone who "reincarnated into a novel" instead of "reincarnating into the past".
There's a lot of changes to this story in the webtoon and it angers a lot of people because how the novel played out after Claud forgot his memories satisfied all readers and we were happy with the way it developed. In the webtoon, there's all this unnecessary drama.

On another note, this started off okay, but now it just feels so iffy. The MC is starting to annoy me. The ML is ehh. The ML's sexuality being misunderstood is still funny and entertaining. But the main characters themselves are falling through for me ( T﹏T )
