I don’t think you can say the snake is lying. The grandfather is gonna pass at some point and they both know that. The snake for sure delayed that process tho and is letting the MC have more time with him. I think without the snake the grandpa would have already died.
I’m thinking maybe it doesn’t work because the grandpa doesn’t WISH for it to work. Grandpa knows the circle of life and I doubt he wants to live forever. Geumryang is in denial as most people are when they don’t want to let go of a loved one. Grandpas probably gonna sit down with Geumryang and eventually talk to him about it

Geumryang is the Snake hehehe but I could see the grandpa eventually telling his grandson that he has lived a long, wonderful life and is ready to go and I think only then will his grandson Tae be able to accept and let his grandpa go. I also wonder if once the birth comes if she snake dies....
Ohh I see I didn’t pick up on the fact that MC knows his grandpa will eventually die. I guess I thought the snake would give like 10 years or something but it seems like grandpa will die soon (?). I hope MC is able to say goodbye fully :’
