i was really waiting for whatever hakyung had done to him to be life altering betrayal. but he just chose to save his mom over revealing the truth so if i were him i wouldn't even feel guilty for what i had done. i would have made the same choice for my family. i mean i probably would've just too yoonsung the truth and asked for his help but hakyung's guilt is too much. his mom didn't even survive. yoonsung will forgive him.

While Hakyung will do anything to save his family, he's not an opportunist. Proof is the part when the granpa gave him money because for him, Myungsoo's already paying him enough. It was already said that Yoonsung's family did their best to support his mom's medication. They did their part until the end. It's his mother's body that can't take it. This is also the reason why Gunwoo wanted to work in their hospital. You see they're not that bad for Hakyung to just pay no heed of his deal with the family. He's doing his fair share of dealings.
His guilt roots from something else.

guys i read like the first 20 chapters of this when it first came out and felt the plot was pretty weak and villains kinda lame cause like ok your sister sucks but she didn't have any power anyway so it's got a 9.2 now. does it get really good?

I know what you mean, but I like it anyway. Also, don’t forget we all see things from different perspectives. People who read the spoilers are still divided. I’m not letting that ruin my experience. Actually, I’m more excited about this story because the twist is crazy and unique. Don’t give up, lol. To Marzzz……keep reading. This isn’t ordinary by any means. Stay away from the spoilers If you do read them, just remember everybody interprets differently.
honestly if FL was a real person and had reached that point of no return, i don't think she would be able to love him again but i'm going to try to get invested since that was effing adorable. he's becoming human for her. i hope there's some lore as to why he didn't know about her or something though.
My read on it was that he knew his mate was her but deliberately chose not to recognize her to be a perfectly rational ruler without human emotions and he assumed she would never leave him because she was in love with him.
I agree I agree I agree. And although it wasn’t really addressed the advisor he kills in an earlier chapter may have played a bigger role in their relationship dynamics beyond his role in having her accused of treason, like convincing him it would benefit him/the nation to keep her in that in-between status of never being recognized as his mate but kept on the shelf for him to use to prove his legitimacy as emperor. I’m also now wondering if his past action of ‘choosing’ a mate to ascend when he previously awakened also influenced how he treated Solan in their original timeline. Kinda like ‘I’ve done this before, don’t really need a legit mate just the figurehead of one, if I didn’t care for the fake why should I care for this one’ something along the lines of proving his control over her and the situation in general. Plus I REALLY wanna crawl around the inside of his head especially after she passed in their original timeline , not just to see his thoughts but to see the suffering ya know?
