Maybe i am sick in the head because i am still trying to find the reason why the duke is a red flag dont come after meeee
1. He loves killing birds (especially mother birds whose babies are waiting in the nest)
2. He doesn't love Leila, he wants to possess her, chain her up like a bird, torture her, watch her cry, and get pleasure from watching her cry.
3. He has zero emotions or humanity whatsoever
4. He is the most twisted, fucked up, criminal minded handsome psycho male lead I have ever come across
5. He is mentally unstable, he does not even know what he wants to do with his life
6. He's a rapist and sexual offender. He raped her many, many times but that is for later
I could go on and on and the list doesn't end. Now give me one single reason why he isn't a red flag
idk i just find their dynamic complex and quite intriguing. tbh i dont feel (or read) anything VERY bad about him in the manhwa. (like the R word yall are saying) and hunting birds (as if 9ur ancestors didnt hunt birds).
in my eyes, he's just a stuck up noble which is locked in cage himself (no pun intended, maybe) and leila's character is waaayyy more complex because she has this curiosity of little girl towards the duke, but also a logical thinking of an adult female (which is the one that's angry in her pov voices)
well idk i didn't read the novel so i might be wrong.
ps. im no love guru, but if u read between the lines of the duke... ull have a hint that he loves leila. and that love was once again unconventional (which may be deemed as a red flag for those of you who loved using that word, and become deluded that loving someone should only be displayed in one "common" gesture, other than that its alr a red flag.) Not saying I am on his side either (cuz yeah i dont like it that he has a prospect wife alr. and is having feelings for leila) but c'mon it's a story, it's suppose to broaden your perspectives.
pps. i really love the panel where the duke followed leila in the museum and he lifted her to reach the 'birds'.
Hmm, so she walked into his bed on her own and would have slept with him even if he had not used uncle bill going to jail against her? Don't make me laugh. He does not love her, he just wants to abuse her all he wants and own her like a bird with no wings. If your definition of love is so twisted, I can only feel bad for you.
I don't really like Leila either cause she shows curiosity when it comes to him and accepts him in the end despite his behavior towards her, but she is clearly a victim here. I get that it's human tendency to try to say/support something in contrast with what others are saying just to seem different, but I definitely won't allow you to defend the psycho rapist ml
Chapter 69 - She had half a wish that everything that happened last night was just a cruel nightmare, but the stiffness in her body proved it otherwise. She blinked back remnants of sleep as she turned to look at her reflection in her mirror by the vanity.
Last night she had dragged herself half-awake back home. When she finally reached her cabin, Leyla had just barely locked the doors before collapsing in a dreamless sleep on her own bed.
She would have liked to wash away last night’s traces on her body, but she was so exhausted she couldn’t even lift a finger after hitting her mattress. The best she could do last night was to get home without driving herself to insanity because of last night’s events.
Absentmindedly, her eyes trailed down her body, watching the hickeys he’d left on her skin, the dried body fluids making her feel unkempt and sticky all over. Seeing them once more made the shame run deep inside her as tears welled up in the memory of being violated in the most humiliating way.
First of all, that chapter can’t be considered as grape because Leila was a willing participant. She agreed upon the deal. Matthias give her a choice and instead of allowing her uncle to face the consequences of his actions, she decided to taje decisions and take matters into her own hands. Leila is not a child, she’s a smart girl and already knew what Matthias wanted from her(sexually). Her being violent or humiliated was not because of gRape, it’s because Mattias was very rough with her. You can obtain that conclusion from both their dialogues. And both of them even express remorse, especially Matthias.
Leila own words, It's not that big of a deal, not when you know why you have to do it..! she kept telling herself. Confirmation of a willing participant.
- Also, after Matthias give her choice to leave, the bitch had the audacity to say
Her body trembled as she looked down on the ground, refusing to give him the satisfaction of her looking up at him like a weak woman(oh! How brave she is
Also, I will advise you to read the Korean version because it’s completely different from the English translation. It confirms why Leila felt humiliated and violated and it’s because Matthias was rough and left remnants of their first night all over her body. Btw, humiliation and violation isn’t even included the Korean version.
Exactly! Imagine being threatened with your parent's safety and having no other option to begin with! For the people saying it's not rape, it's worse than rape! She was forced to have sex again and again, when she literally hated it and was even aware that she was given no choice. (she was crying and begging and that's where he says the title "cry, or better yet beg" because he loves watching her cry) And he didn't end it at once, he made sure the deal was sealed to do it over and over again.
I hate her for forgiving him in the end. Forgiving and forgetting to move on is one thing, but going back to him is something I hate the author for.
I have one question for these guys, if this situation happened with say their friend/sister/someone they're close with, would they still say it wasn't rape? Would they say it was a choice?
Leila shouldn't have agreed, but how EVIL should Matthias be to propose such a deal? And do all of those things to her when she was crying for life? They're all forgiving him because he has a handsome face. Now imagine an ugly looking old man do the same things to her and tell me if you feel the same.
I agree with you about Layla's sexual exploitation, as her consent was given through coercion and the Duke's beauty doesn't take away the disgusting feeling of this scene.
However, I have always pointed Layla for knowingly and willingly exposing herself to the danger of being “molested” by the Duke. That's because, to a certain extent, I think she enjoyed the sensation of captivating Mathias' attention. They started playing cat and mouse from a very early age and it grew out of control. Because I can't understand Layla's lack of prudence, when she comes from an unfavorable environment and had to fight for survival from an early age, she doesn't act wisely in the face of Mathias who has immense decision-making power, even over her stay in Arvis, his territory, and prefers to give in to his obvious and immature provocations. She was supposed to lay low and leave Arvis as soon as possible, when the first signs of Mathias' interest appeared. But Layla chose to see how far he would go and he didn't hesitate to make her his mistress, making her carry all the shame of their relationship alone.
And the world is still full of Laylas who give Mathias the slip.
I agree, shes one of the weakest female leads I've come across. But she does become strong in the later part of the novel, especially during the war when she was pregnant and uncle Bill died. I think that's when she rejected Matthias' very existence and hated him to the core to the point she wasn't even intimidated by him anymore but it was too late.
She did draw a lot of attention initially but nevertheless Matthias would do the same things even if she didn't be that flustered in his presence. Man's a psycho
