God I wish we would have more dimensional characters. It's almost too easy to root for the main character; she's an abuse victim who went to another abusive family where she's mocked by one-dimensional characters whose sole personality is "evil and shitty." wow. so compelling.

i don't want to mindlessly shit on this, but when you look at it objectively the story is relatively bland and the characters are all one-dimensional. all of them. Amon is a possessive cat boy who will beat anyone who touches his property, i.e. blondina, the siblings are spoiled and for some reason incredibly hostile, the emperor got blinded by his greed and doesn't give a shit about really anyone other than his two children he raised, and blondina is just a naive victim of abuse who likes cats and can talk to them. the mom is *so* far just a plot device, and her step father was just abusive.
if you want just general cliche's with a possessive ml, in a scenario VERY similar to jacob from twilight, go ahead. but so far, the characters do not seem well written and i see no further reason to read a story when there have been several opportunities to make compelling characters. the ML is too creepy for me (people calling others "theirs" is incredibly concerning for me).
let me predict the plot: she finds out she's descended from the goddess who was able to talk to amon's ancestors and that's the reason why he doesn't instantly kill her. her step-sister tries to kill her or manipulate her, maybe her step-brother is killed, her father either a) becomes sympathetic or just full fledged villain, and there will be no real suspension of disbelief. amon is possessive in a yandere-esque way, and her character will become one who just is okay with what he does and when he hurts people due to her upbringing.
this is a long post, but if you look at this story constructively it's just
very bland, cliche, with poorly written character archetypes. if you're fine with bland stories, power to you, but if you're constructive with what you read, i wouldn't recommend this, at least with how it currently stands. i HOPE that it becomes better, but first impressions are forever, and if they try to make characters more dimensional it really won't work.

Ruda was already aware of the person who is bullying Dani, but he's fine with it. Because he likes her he doesn't care if she gets mentally broken and isolated because he would be able to use that to his advantage to make her depend solely on him and believe that it's out of her own free will. Yeah,, gaslighting, manipulation,,,, fucked up. But instead of getting mad, Ju In kind of laughs because he's similar - in that he's very apathetic and manipulative in regards to people as well. However, *because* Ju In likes Dani and knows her, he would never want to manipulate her or let her be manipulated and hurt, instead being content with hurting others to protect her - the exact opposite of Ruda.
So, Ruda and Ju In are both apathetic manipulators, but while Ruda wants to gaslight and isolate the people he likes in order for him to become the only one they can rely on, Ju In wants the people he loves to be happy and will hurt others to protect them.
I don't care if Ruda redeems himself. That's some creepy, abusive, narcissistic yandere shit.
If anyone you know is in a relationship where their partner is cutting them off from the world, fucking reach out to them. It's a classic abuse tactic to isolate their target and convince them they're the only person to rely on. I'm not excusing Ju In, who is okay with hurting others to get to his own goals, even those who are innocent, but Ruda is straight up the poster child for someone you would abuse you in a relationship. Manipulation, gaslighting, and isolating a person IS abuse. It doesn't need to be physical. Don't romanticize Ruda and normalize this concept.

People are acting as if people either have to be 100% good or 100% evil, as if it's not possible for him to be both an evil villain and a victim who who was manipulated. People aren't black and white. Actions aren't counted with points and when you add all the negative and positive points together the sum decides whether someone is worth forgiving or not. Sure, it's uncomfortable to think that people can be multitudes at once, and can do both atrocious and incredible things, but that's life. That's one of the reasons afterlives are a comforting idea, that there's an all knowing deity that can decide for us who is "good" or "bad." This emperor is an abuse victim, manipulated by the only person who had stood by him. The emperor in his previous life was the same, but that manipulation continued for much longer because no one actually helped show him how evil the one person he could connect with was.
Did he commit atrocious deeds in this life? Not that much, actually. I don't know whether he is objectively good or bad, but I don't really care since this current emperor is growing and changing and has realized who the people truly are around him.
It's clear in the previous life that Rose (that's her name, right? Don't remember-) was successful in painting the MC's sister as evil, that she had purposefully fed other royals food against their religion, that she was plotting against him. And the ML never learned that like he did in this world, so to him, she was the evil one, who was hurting him, and thus her family was punished with her.
I think it's unfair to judge a person by the sins they haven't committed. People are acting as if he is the same person as in the past - the second his marriage partner changed, he started becoming a different person. Y'all gotta chill, because in this time line, he has yet to do anything non"redeemable." In fact, if the current him met his previous life's self, his previous life's self would probably kill his current self for betraying their "one true friend," or whatever he thought.

At this point I'm more mad at Param rather than Mr. Han. Sure, he's known to be a player and isn't involved in romantic relationships, only sexual, so his intentions with Param are dubious, but ffs Param. You know Hwi likes you and wants to go on a romantic date with you on the weekend. You know that Mr. Han likes you - whether romantically or solely sexually, we still don't know. It's unfair for you to consent to going on that date and continuing your relationship with Hwi on its current terms and expectations while still engaging with and not turning down Param, considering you're sexually engaged with Hwi and are now romantically engaging in activities (e.g. the future date).

I really like how much she snaps. I wish she did so more often, in all honesty, making him feel frightened and realize how fragile life is.

I don't ship them, at least not yet. I feel Yeon and the Emperor have much more of a connection, from when she brought him words of comfort when they were just kids, to her giving her life to him, and to bringing him happiness as his aide and love as a woman. Her step-mother's cousin literally just asked if she loved the emperor and then asked her to help him in a mission. There is no romantic tension, nothing, so I don't understand why the people ship them. Perhaps if there was actual romantic tension involved, but I'm beginning to thing that most readers just see two hot people and thing they would be a good couple without even thinking about anything like subtext or history.

"Im sorry for emotionally manipulating you and using your feelings to my advantage and letting you suffer, but I ensured a bunch of people were arrested and jeopardized your relationships with your friends outside. but i had a sad life. forgive me?

Remember how she was given a book but couldn't remember who gave it or why it was given to her? I'm assuming her blood is special and different (perhaps like those fae folk stories of fae who seduce humans, her mom was a supernatural being) and just like the giver of the book was able to elude herself from everyone's memory, so were the maids - everyone except Cecile, of course. I don't think they didn't exist or weren't human in form, but can rather control and manipulate memories.

I like how he intends to stay as a father figure. It's really refreshing.
