I like how she makes my blood boil whenever she does something. Like when she called Navier her sister cause they shared the same husband, I wished for an Isekai truck to help me cross to the Western Empire so I can slap a bitch. (Somebody said "I wish a hoe would")
I will say this though, if you as a real person, ever feel some form of hostility towards a fictional character or villain; it means they are doing something right. Villains/Villainesses are supposed to be bad and evil. To garner sympathy for them, is turning a blind eye to the messed up stuff they be doing. It's really a cop out honestly.
That's why I'm glad the author decided to reveal her background early. Imagine, after all the shit she would done, and the Author suddenly reveals that she had a rough childhood. Y'all would be quick to forget that this B done ruined Duchess Tuvania's marriage for no reason at all. Up until the Slave rumors, Duchess Tuvania had never even breathed a word about Rashta.
She makes me sooo mad and she gets worse too (think of the world's worst jealous concubine. That is what she becomes) but I love it regardless. It's been a while since I've seen a good villainess.
He loves her but has no problem sleeping with other women and having an entire Baby Mama despite us reading his inner thoughts of his true love.
I'm conflicted with this story. On one hand, I think it's quite realistic with regards to the progression of events or plotline. Dude can't stay celibate for his knight when he got a whole empire to run that needs stability. An heir is the solution.
After being talked down all her life by men, of course, it would be harder for her to take their confessions seriously. Fact.
There's been no real ass petty fighting between the concubines (yet). What we do see is an amicable relationship despite their own inner turmoils. This is quite wholesome and refreshing to see.
But despite these good things, this story feels very off for some reason. There are these subtle moments of disconnect I get when I'm reading it. Like how the emperor discovers he likes her. It's believeable; the chapters do justify the amount of time they spent together, but I can't help but feel like the love is forced on him to have cause she is the lead?? Idk man, this story is a classic example of a 3 star to me. It's not bad but it isn't that good for me to give it a higher rating.
all emperors play the role in fuck and hope they get a male heir. no matter how much they love someone else, they have to do it for their country. albeit of course he doesn't bare real feelings towards the concubines. and I understand what you're trying to say, I get the same vibe here and there and all I can say is that I think their romance is better explained in the novel? (if that makes sense) everything comes together more naturally and ig it doesn't appear as natural in the manhwa compared to the novel; it is what it is.
As personal opinion (and as novel reader), for me is something more explained by subtles actions (Or me doing hard headcanon lol). Lucius develops a special relationship with Paulina since the begging because she is the first person who choose him. Paulina choose to follow Lucius not by his birth right as an emperor like all the army he had in that moment, but because she saw that he was someone whort to follow.
During the war, Lucius holds dearly Paulina because she becomes...an equal thanks to her work and personality. Not a woman who he can only lust, not a woman who he needs for political reasons, neither a woman who protects him in a maternal way... Paulina is someone who he can talk, joke, fight, talk about politics, about war... Paulina become the first woman he respect as an equal and learns a lot about women in his world. Loyal and confidant, but still sharp to tease him or argue with him for see others solutions. She is independent like him but still choose to be with him.
So when they are in the cliff and he see hers, still there ten years after their rocky start and all the war, smiling at him...he falls. Not because Paulina is there with him in his big accomplish but because he sees that in his future...he wants her with him. Bewitched by the crush, he looks at Paulina and starts lusting hard and clear after her body. Lucius falls in love and then lust madly. And then he can't confess because Paulina does not feel the same and he does not want to lose her friend.
So, yes, I think Lucius is very much in love with Paulina but he still is someone who put his heart, lives of his soldiers and ten year of his love in a kingdom who he has obligations (=・ω・=)
I'm glad you mentioned the Novel aspect. There are times when Novels offer a better description than the Manhwa ever could provide, so it could be that I'm missing out on a lot of context to Lucius feelings like his transition from Respect to Love for Paulina
It still feels a little weird to me though, when he feels self conscious of her and blushes red like a tomato (▰˘◡˘▰) only for him to enter a mixed bath with her a couple of scenes later. (#-_-)
An emperor getting annoyed that Paulina gets confessed too, when Man's got a whole Baby on the way and three freaking wives! His wives are being taken care of by the very woman he loves "deeply" so when he throws in the occasional flirt at Paulina, why do I feel it isn't sincere? It's cause the infatuation isn't exactly aligning with his actions thus far despite me understanding that he needs to be a good emperor first before his feelings.
I'm probably used to the trash Shoujo stories that show unrealistic progressions and accomplishments of relationships. But I'll be damned to co-sign a great MC like Paulina to be pursued by a baby daddy with a harem.
This can be subjective but Lucius is an strange position. He is married to women he does not love but needs politicaly, they're using him as much he uses them but is in favour of a great goal: to not let all the conquest and lifes lost being in vain. And Paulina does not recirprocate his feelings, Paulina is enough loyal to say 'yes' to him but that will no be by her own decision. Basically he need to put his shit together and focus on being an emperor and future dad (like he is trying and his excited to be a dad even though it will not be from the woman he loves).
But he is still trapped in his own feelings and it's difficult because he is not only a ruler, he is still a person. He can't ignore Paulina, she is not only a dear friend to him, she deserves her title and trust to be around him after all this years of war and does not deserve the ghastlighting. But neither he can't ignore his feelings while being with her, because they are in his own core; not his duties as an emperor or as political weapon, he loves her as the raw Lucius. Also Lucius has know his feelings for like 1 year (even though he counts 10) so it's not such a big time to out in love, is still fresh. So even when he knows (In the last chapters he know he is behaviour is bad and in the future he would grant Paulina her permission to marry with another man), he can't help that affects him as someone who holds so much power but can't do anything at the same time. He craves for her still knowing she will say no, like a crush of a lesbian in a heterosexual girl. You know there's no hope, you know you should give up but you still can't just treat her like a friend but neither you can't ignore her because...It's your friend! So that would explain the situation in the terms 'Why Lucius should act diferrent? This is normal, Paulina does not mind it will be weird If I mind'
If you have read 'The Reason Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke's Mansion' there's a 'similar' situation. The former king and the mother of the duke,of course it's different becuase the mother of the Duke was malicious but, hear me out. When she poisons his kid, he can't punish her becuase he loves her. And when she dies, he follows her. He was still an emperor and gave his throne to it was his duty to give to his first son the throne but a lot of his actions where marked for his love to her, even knowing she didn't love him and it was only using him. Noah and his brother learn a lesson: 'Love makes a ruler do fool things'
I may be biased (lol) but I accept that this history should not be tagged 'romance' and more like 'josei'. Paulina is too dense and Lucius is too much in love, so the romance is very unbalanced ( ̄▽ ̄)
That's what unrequited love is. An imbalance. I'm always sympathetic to characters like this but I was surprisingly harsh to Lucius and I am not exactly sure why. You are definitely right, he is in a predicament to be a good righteous emperor at the expense of his real feelings. It really is sad. I'm only now sympathetic after getting spoiled about what's going to happen to his love life in the future. ╥﹏╥
As for the Raeliana thing (I read it too(⌒▽⌒)), I despise that sort of behaviour. I've read and watched a lot of Harem-like historical series and I don't like when Kings/Emperors don't do their due diligence when it comes punishing their consorts. You know your second wife did some ish like poison a child, but you don't punish her because of love??? That has to be BS of the highest order....One thing, I will give Lucius is that he hopefully won't become like that at all.
This story has an excellent framing. Rashta would be the typical clumsy heroine loved by the Emperor and picked on due to her low status. Had the Author chosen to make Rashta the heroine, we would all be calling the Empress evil and hate her. But since it is being framed from Navier, Rashta becomes the automatic annoying one.
The actions these two women take are no different than what the other villainesses and heroines from other mangas/webtoons. If anything, they are quite benign to each other with very little malice. So where does the majority of evil lie from?? The men; specifically Ergy and the Emperor. The Emperor is the biggest villain starting with the double standard he perpetuates. And this is important.
It now makes me think that part of the biggest problem with harems isn't one woman getting jealous of the other. It's a complacent Emperor/King who confuses the very women around him. He loves Rashta but he wants to chain Navier for his own benefit and going so far as to mildly seduce her too. That's just trash, dusty behaviour.
I'm happy that Navier has high self-respect and is able to think logically to save herself instead of being a damsel in distress. I stan a strong Queen.
Came late to the game but oh my word, the artwork...in the beginning the artwork was very intimidating and very good but where I'm at, it looks...kinda goofy. It's okay but I'm failing to take this story seriously. I wish I was good at art too
The artwork changes 2 times. First artwork is to god-tier, second is a sharp quality decline but third it climbs back up. It's not as god as the first artwork but it falls in the good side of average, so it doesn't make it painful to read. It's nothing to throw rockets but it's still pretty and has some good moments. Ahead looks much better too.
Been reading too many messed up BL stories lately so I thought I would try the straight section (during pride month). Even though it has nsfw art, it looks sooo pure and wholesome and its quite short too.
Depends on what you are looking for.
For the messed up ones that are ongoing there's:
Sura's Lover
Legs that don't work (this that hardcore-hardcore)
Dear Door
Painter of the Night (If you havent already but it's on hiatus)
Black Mirror
Otherwise number one completed messed up pick is:
Killing Stalking
But if you're looking for something more innocent, I am more than happy to indulge. Just say the word.
LOL there are so many wholesome ones I cannot name them all so here’s..my list?

But Imma still peep the updates though.
