This has been such a relatively happy fic, so to have such violence come out like this is actually terrifying. Most sexual assault scenes are either brushed under the rug, happen so often they lose their impact, are blatantly sexual so the violence and horror of the act is undermined, or happen in a work that already has other/a bunch of traumatic shit going on you kind of just expect a rape to be added to the list; however, none of the rumors or bullying we’ve seen so far compare to Dojin, a character we’ve all come to love and can identify as a truly good person, about to get assaulted at knife point by what should be one of his best friends. Like, seriously nothing in this work besides the previous couple of chapters prepared us for this, and even then I didn’t expect it to be so...chilling.

Everything in this manga has such a mature depiction: the bodies, their personalities, the dialogue, the sensuality depicted every time they kiss or express desire, the enticing carnal passion whenever they have sex, the emotive faces and body language. Even if one acts like a man child you get the sense these are two adult men with their own pasts, secrets, and stakes that are clashing every time they’re together; furthermore, it doesn’t really on major violence or psychological trauma to be mature. It’s a rich conflict that doesn’t get cheapened by juvenile arguments and childish misunderstandings, truly this work is raising my standards and will ruin a lot of contemporary works for me, but damn is it necessary cause yaoi really needs to evolve and diverge from pseudo-shoujo plots and clichés.
