Of course there are unbearable moments, but the author is very intentional about it — the development or addition of elements contribute to characterization of the main characters or the setting, or is a necessary set up for the later shift in the story.
I very much enjoyed reading this more than the slice of life BL that has better ratings (no offense to those). The pacing and execution in this story just strings the mind of the reader naturally towards analyzing the motives of the characters.
The pacing is executed very well. Not too much is given away, but what is said is chosen with care by the author, same with what is omitted.
Underrated for sure. I anticipate the ratings will go up since more chapters have been uploaded — I hope more people discover this gem, honestly. It’s worth the chance.
Mitsuki Sega is a walking fatal flaw and the author just made that character become so sexy and cute!?!? What kind of magic is this.
I’m so distrustful of Sashinami Mei, but also I see his keen and considering eye, and I can’t help but be grateful to him for shedding more light on Sega’s multifaceted personality! I can’t help but feel the tension he feels in the change of his eyes and the self-restraint on that carefully schooled smile.
Of course kudos to author and translator for conveying the dialogue the way they did - which contributed to the at times friendly and at times ambiguous atmosphere.
I have high hopes for seeing Mitsuki’s character growth - but I’m also afraid of what Sashinami will do… Sega might be irascible and blunt but he’s actually quite earnest and there’s a seriousness to him that I want to PROTECT at all cost.
The wait is killing me but once the next volume comes out, it will be sensational - I just know. I can imagine hearing the angels singing in the background when that time comes lol.
No going back now. I would go so far to say I love this CP more than the main CP.
Respect for their fandom. But give me more panels of Sega-Sashinami pleasseeeee
I could not care less about that rapist, the ML, but I’m here for MC’s character growth!! He absolutely dazzled me in chapter 15 - I had to pause and savor the moment lol.
I did already feel sympathy for MC in the earlier chapters.
Because even though it wasn’t clear right out what part he had in an atrocious event in the past (there were only hints of being haunted by the memory of another person’s suffering and the full picture was yet to be revealed) no one should be tormented like that — being raped every night is inexcusable!
But more than that, Erwar had this quiet strength about him — he never wallows in self-pity for too long. He mocks his own situation at times, but he’s not consumed by bitterness yet. He’s struggling with body ailments because of his nightmarish nights that he can’t explain to anyone (due to his memory of them being wiped clean and later on due to how outrageous the truth is that no one can possibly believe him), so he can be short-tempered. However, he treats the people around him with even-temperedness and warmth most of the time. The devil calls his soul pure (ironic since he claims to have supposedly come to MC as punishment for the wrongs he has done to someone), and Tristan said it outright how Erwar may look cold on the outside but has a warm heart. The servants also can sense that the bouts of ill-temper may be due to the exhaustion they see the Count was battling - they understand as well that Erwar is not truly a bad person or master.
This earned my respect throughout the beginning chapter.
Then I was blown away by MC in Chapter 15 :)
Anyway, I am LOCKED IN. I was only halfway in before because of how hateful ML is, but I’m fully on the ship now for MC — I can’t possibly miss his character development yall.
I don’t know about everyone else, but I found the translator’s notes so helpful. Her consideration to detail and grasp of nuances elevated my experience of the story greatly. She even includes explanations of particular disparities between the novel, the adaptation, and the modifications she made — she’s really good at tying up her analysis. The translator did her job and more. Side note: aren’t the chibi character representing the translator so funny and relatable?? lol

Personally had to drop this. I understand but I can’t stand how MC still has to endure her connection with this other girl. I also don’t agree that the parents have to decide their relationship for them and kept forcing them together.
My repulsion got to the point where I can’t read on.
Will always LOVE the artstyle style though.
