Wow, how bad is the translation of chapter 12...
For a second I thought 12 and 13 must have been from different groups. I haven’t been a huge fan of the translation for this so far but 12 was particularly bad, the word choices were not great in some instances. The esper’s last name isn’t even consistent between the two chapters. Alas no, both chapters at the top have the same scan name

I guess because he's unsure about it, it's easier to get him to agree to 4 months with a get out clause (for the sunbaes peace of mind) hoping he falls properly and doesn't want him to go in 4 months. I would guess if he wanted him, Ian would not leave, or would want to take him with him!
That is if this 4 months thing is even true, why move team for just 4/5 months? Seems a bit of a jerk around but I know nothing about sports.
