There’s a true crime creator I watch (Boze vs the world) who says something great about the killers she covers. “We can be sad for the child that was failed without excusing their actions down the line”
look I know it’s not that deep but I think the author and a lot of writers can take a lot for that statement. At some point a character is written too far gone. And controversially, that’s fine. What’s not fine is them demanding a sympathy switch from the audience through all of the characters suddenly forgiving a deplorable character for their actions.
As a fucked up example there’s the Sadistic Beauty BL Side story (if i remember correctly) where at the very end the victim doesn’t forgive his abused, at all. Like not at all. Still hated him actually, but settled because he was so broken. Ofc that’s not a perfect story either, seemed like the author really tried to make the abuser look sympathetic because he was basically shitting himself in guilt over what he has done.
A different example is Warehouse, where the characters have such stockholm syndrome (one from the present abuse he faced and one from the past) that they understand how much they’re not good for each other. Despite that they do come together in the end, while the victim made it very clear that they cannot and will not EVER be able to start from scratch. What’s done is done.
I can list a bunch of other examples where a redemption arc (imo) works, like Low Tide in Twilight.
All of those were saved by really good writing too. It just seems like the author of Jinx isn’t a strong enough writer to dig herself out of this hole she’s created. I do feel bad for kid Horse Face who was abused, but ultimately it just feels like the author writing the classic trope that a lot of stories do to make an abuser look forgiving. Like she’s just going through the motions before the sudden Kim Dan forgiveness party.
Idk at the end of the day I just be yapping. I would love to be proven wrong honestly, the author is so artistically talented but good god I’ve read uglier because of strong writing. Maybe she should get a co writer for the next one lol. This story is already too far gone

exactlyyy. like not a single apology or even "my bad" has come out of this man's mouth EVER to kim dan. and that random hug before the hiatus felt more gross than anything, it didn't feel like this grand turning point like the author so badly wanted. from dan's perspective that hug happening months after them basically ignoring each other except for r*pey booty calls would've skeeved me out soooo bad. like yuck get off. also yeah that heesung stuff was lowkey horrific. writers shouldn't underestimate the power of a genuine "i'm sorry" ......

no but horse face was abused in quite literally every single way possible as a child guys!! so Dan SHOULD forgive him because even though he also grew up poor asf he had his sweet sweet grandma to give him love throughout it all (we will just ignore that JK's coach and coach's mom took him in and gave him so much care growing up).
A gambling mobster alcoholic abusive poor dad is so fucking funny i can't make this stuff up

Seems like I JUST missed the window to be able to yap about each chapter with everyone. Currently on s2 ch43. The sheer insanity of these two... usually I feel really bad for the meek uke (and I'm not excusing the violence inflicted on him) but the way these two characters are.... its almost turned into a soap opera for me. Good god they're both deranged perfectly for each other. I think it helps that at almost every turn sungkyun has actively reveled in every beating. Not once has he genuinely thought to escape (up to the point I'm reading anyway), its miscommunication between them in the most psychopathic way possible. These two are... just wow.
I think this is one of the better depictions of a full on psychological breakdown (in the uke's case) that I've seen in these BL stories. Both of them are in extreme psychosis just from different things, sungkyun's born from losing his parents + doing drugs and cheong-rim's from living in red mansion alone as a child, and his brothers consistently showing him he can't have anyone in his corner.
Good god, good god, good god.
9/10 I know I'm gonna wish it was longer.

i CANNOT wait for season 3! i know there's 0 announcements but based on the trend of the last season this will probably come back in August...
i don't know if this is a spoiler or not but i love love love how the author seemed to take some criticism of season 1 and make it better here. ik a lot of people (including myself) were pretty annoyed that the sex scene in season 1 was a bit.... r@p3y.... reminiscent of any other standard BL where the top is just kinda doing whatever they want and the bottom has to suck it up. i would've been a bit annoyed yeah but accepted it tbh
so color me surprised when their first sex scene in season 2 had bada directly challenge doha on that!! him saying "that doesn't make it okay for you to hurt me" shot through my soul bc YES bada stick up for yourself!! and doha respects that and continues to!! even though he is horny as hell lol. also him putting his hand around bada's neck up through his shirt.... this author knows how to make some creative scenes whew
so yeah even though doha does some shady stuff i think that moment specifically is what made me much more inclined to trust that doha really cares about bada. maaaany many other MLs would just choose to keep overpowering their sub and not take into account any "no." and what also pisses me off is then the sub is just docile and takes this constant disrespect (looking at you Jinx).
my jaw dropped hearing that bada is actually the ONLY npc, what a good twist. i absolutely love this author's writing & pacing and i hope they make more stuff in the future i am addicteddddd
i gotta reread this 10 times over so i can reduce the hole in my heart now....

Second every single words of your comment. At first Doha looks like the typical arrogant jerk who thinks with his dick not his head. But damn he's actually cool and smart and like Bada said, a natural leader. And he's also the biggest golden retriever that can't be separated from its owner at all. Not to mention the sex is on fire, makes me horny at 3am with zero regrets (▰˘◡˘▰)
maybe i've just been dumbing down the senses too much with some of the stories i've been reading but, the writing in this is sooooo gooooood
god i love an uke that stands up for themselves and i love that the "main couple" didn't get together initially (and i'm not talking about 2-3 chapters in, i'm on 21 and they still haven't actually done it) and the seme is a piece of shit but the uke actually calls him out for it
the nuance in the uke's emotions about letting down his "friend" and just how much he doesn't trust the seme! like good, stand by your guns dude that guy seems INSANE lol.
in a much worse story he'd just bend over backwards (literally) as soon as the seme does something nice like... i guess get him out of being sued after self defense. even if the seme victim blamed him SO MUCH
good storytelling
very good art style
the story doesn't just exist in a millenial beige high rise apartment and like.... a single cafe
the characters (besides that blonde guy i guess) don't all just wear straight off the rack at UNIQLO clothes
as a former violinist, i like how the uke is portrayed to be playing the violin, its not awkward like a lot of other executions of instrument playing
and i like that he actually enjoys sex (in the right consenting context)
should've honestly read maybe 2 more chapters before posting this because i wanna be a looooot meaner to wujin.
point still stands though, i've read too many manga where the seme is an unrelenting douche but because he maybe showed sympathy once/has a sad backstory the weak submissive uke is like "b-b-but he can't be all bad!" right off the bat (cough cough jinx)
the writing is hitting friends
